paginas amarillas state they are on 27 de febrero, number 1. where is it? at the entrance of santiago, comining from POP (i wish)? or in the city center? i will be arriving in my faithful companion, KITT ;) also known as honda capa, i am crappy driver, i cannot park and i do not know santiago all that well so please keep direction simple and easy. :)

called them just now - 809 971 1333 - and they say i can renew my residency there. only for two years and at 4.000 pesos. or 4.100, if i got it right. worth checking out and i really need to drive more anyways. i should be using highlander but there is no way i can park that :)

It's at Ave. Texas and Ave. 27. Just come up 27 from downtown and there is a median opening where you cross and do a short uturn to get into the parking lot.

While I believe you can deposit the documents in Santiago you still have to go to the capital to pick up the residency card and cedula.

Dv8 you will coming from POP take the road to Santiago. When you hit (not literally) Navarette you turn left and keep going straight. You will enter Santiago on Sadhalla and keep going straight. You will go through lots of lights and when you see TGI Friday on your right stay in the right hand lane. Do not go over the flyover with Nacional supermarket on left, but go down to the right, and turn right with Kentucky fried chicken on the corner. Take next right and turn right into car park. Opposite you now will be a littlle shopping centre. Go upstairs and Migracion is there.

Chip you are wrong. You do not have to go to capital to pick up the residency, you return to Santiago to do it. Cedula can only be done in Santo Domingo and not by Migracion but by the JCE.

Well I'm glad to see Santiago finally got their camera. I'm aware that the cedula is gotten at the JCE. :) My point was only to point out that a trip is required to the capital.

I agree, that has also been my experience. Cedula definitely in SD from JCE.

If you come up 27 from downtown towards E. Sadhala when you get to the intersection at Estero Hondo you do a uturn and then immediately turn right into "Plaza Los Jardines". As someone has noted you can come up E. Sadhala.

chip, less street names, more shop names :)
i see the map and i kinda imagine the thing. it is in this big grey government building, right? oficina gubernamental?

after that i need EPS, i see where that is too and i hope i will be able to navigate the city. those one way streets are a tad annoying but i have been known to do strange things when driving in santiago ;) :)

dv8, I've followed Matilda's directions to several places in DR, and they are always right on the money - I like her style of directions, using restaurants, supermarkets, etc.

Maybe it's a woman thing :cheeky:

dv8 let me give you the directions as a woman would, and English and not American OK? Sorry but us Brits and Brit speaking Poles dont do uptown and downtown so DV8 would be as confused as I am on that.

1. It is not the big grey government building, so forget that one OK?
2. You take the road to Santiago - ie when you drive out of where you live you turn right to Santiago not left to POP. It is a horrid road with lots of potholes and lorries so be careful. You will go through a tunnel after about 40 minutes of normal driving, probably an hour of vicar like driving. After about 10 minutes from the tunnel, you will come to a T junction, where you turn left, that is Navarette. Be careful as you have to go round a sort of roundabout.
3. Keep going straight all the way till you reach Santiago - about another 20 minutes. You know you are in Santiago when you come to a big set of traffic lights, one of those with numbers counting down, and Ochoa car place on the left.
4. Go straight over the lights and keep going. The road is called Sadhalla if you want to find it on a map. There are lots of sets of lights and lots of people cleaning windscreens and selling things. Keep going until you see TGI Friday on right, stay in right lane and go down slip road next to flyover. Kentucky Fried chicken is on the right. Take the road on the right just past Kentucky, there is a man selling fruit just before it (nice fruit he pours honey over it from a Brugal bottle).
5. Turn right and right again into car park. Get out of car and lock it. Stand facing entrance to car park and on other side of road is a row of shops facing the main road so you are looking at one end. Cross road and in front are concrete steps going up to first floor of row of shops. Go up steps and walk along outside corridor at back of row of shops and there is a posh hairdressers and opposite is migracion.

Got it?

No idea what place is called but is opposite the car park entrance. If you get lost ask anyone round there. It says Migracion written on a bit of cardboard at bottom of the steps.

They still do not have a camera in Santiago. They use an old picture and for that a trip to Santo Domingo is NOT required for most people.

been there, done that. HB's own son escorted me to the migracion :)
no photos, no fingerprints, nada. they took my old card - still valid, btw, charged me with 4.100 pesos and told me to come back in a week or two to pick up the card. no problem because we travel to santiago regularly.
i picked up my ann summers order in EPS and came back home for lunch. did not hit anyone and rocked KITT to mind blowing speed of 110 km/hr when i could hear all the bolts and screws shake over the voice of rob thomas :)

and i swear, one day will get a shotgun and off all those guys in their 20 year old civics driving 50/hr on a highway and suddenly pressing gas when a white woman in a shoe box tries to overtake them. yes, your di*k is smaller than my chapstick, now give way!

One of the most charming and refreshing visits I have had in ages...Sweet youth, highly intelligent and well versed...I am hoping that the Hovel Hospitality will attract her and "miesposo" back here sooner rather than later....

Seems that not good deed goes unpunished: The head of the Migration office here is an old baseball player of mine...

So nice to be able to help out someone without any problems..( and even a few that might have some issues, why not??)
