Hi all,

Will be in Cabarete next month to partake in some kiteboarding and much needed relaxation. I realize I could be setting myself up here, but after using the advanced search, I have to ask...

Who has the nicest cabanas in Sosua/Cabarete?

Second, is there any place to pick up heineken? (individual/6-pack or case).

I know, I know, these are serious trip changing topics I'm inquiring about..lol

Thanks Belgiank! As for the lack of quality, I blame it on the unrefined American drinking pallet..

Now, if you in need of an evening nap, at a nice, clean cabana and didn't mind spending a a couple extra bucks for a nice one...where would you go? Thanks in advance!

How would you blame the relatively poor taste of a Heineken on anyone's pallet? It is like going to Ireland to drink Jack Daniels or Scotland and looking for Tequila. But if you like Heineken, by all means head to Janet's. I think it may also be available in Playero in Sosua, although I must admit it never crossed my mind to look for it.

As for your other priority, others will have to chime in.

The best and cleanest ones are just east of Cabarete just before Gasper Hernandez, called Paraiso, a little more expensive, but by far the cleanest.....For all alcohol go to Janets, ... Presidente kicks the #$#$# outta Heineken....

Heineken is actually made here in the Dominican Republic so let's hope they use purified water! I second Janet's in Cabarete and Super Super in Sosua for the best alcamahol pricing and availability. Playero is kinda pricey for booze, IMHO.

Lastly, as a boozer with over 5 decades of expertise in the arena I concur that Presidente will kick Heineken. Both are pilsners but Presidente is just somethin' special.

Haha, I thought I'd take more grief on the first question and not so much on the second. To set the record straight, I'll be tossing back several presidente's. If a change of pace is needed, I wanted to know where to find it..

Thanks for the heads up on Gasper Henandez. Much appreciated hammerdown!

An another time, cheap tourist .
Why you don't go sleep on the beach.???
That the way to save money.

This crazy guy from the Midwest (me), is into some funky new yoga I picked up while in California. I think it might me illegal to do some of these stretches on the public beach. Last question I have, say I'm stranded in Sosua, in need of stretch session, which is the best within 10 of Sosua. Thank you very much. That's all from this guy on the topic.

There was a cabanna that opened on the main highway just outside of Sosua maybe two years ago. I think it is called "Luv" something or other. Coming from Cabarete, it is on the right hand side just before Sosua. The sign to turn right is just by the Bavarian Butcher shop.
There is also a newer cabanna in the el Batey section of Sosua called "Dulce Secreto" (Sweet Secrets). It is out by the old casino (not the Sosua Bay "After One" Casino).
Enjoy your stretch sessions.

Listen, i don't normally chime in on these kind of topics, but seeing that i'm also into yoga and stretching, i might be able to offer you some free, unsolicited advice in this area. Keep in my that i'm not really flexible any longer at my age. nevertheless, i do my best when the opportunity presents itself.

Ok, first, for stretching needs, why not grab a mosquito net (its raining season right now so there will be a lot of new hatchings) and go into a secluded area near the beach and find three coconut trees to tie your mosquito net up to. i like doing this late at night, after the bars close, around 2am. Other people may prefer a different hour. Anyway, i like to do my stretching late at night without the possibility of being interupted, plus its just cooler at night, less humidity, less heat, less sweating.

If you have a friend, bring them along with a hand-fan made out of some kind of stretching material; i like thatch or paper myself. Your friend can use this to fan you while your stretching and working up a sweat. Plus the hand-fan keeps the mosquitos away from sensitive areas. Also, depending on what kind of clothing and attire that you are wearing, you may find the heat down hear unbearable for yoga exercises. Personally, I like stretching in the nude, but other people i've seen like to stretch with tube socks on; other people stretch with shoes, other with shirts on, and a few even with ties on. i know, its crazy, but look, lets face it, everyone stretches in a different way.

I hope this answers your question.

When I was in the Turks and Caicos Islands about 150 miles north of the DR, Heineken was about the only beer available there and the pavement had thousands of bottle caps inbedded into it for about a block around every corner store.

Beer is only as good as it's treated. In the tropics it's not uncommon to get skunky beer, esp if it's far more pricey than the local brew and stored at 80 degrees for a month or two. Look for local beer with an ice glaze on it called "la falda."

I liked Hotel Kaoba in Cabarete, which has bungalows along with regular hotel rooms, but is still downtown.

About $35/night for one person, a bit more for two or to add air conditioning.

Another referance point is the new medical center, CMC. If going from Cab to Sosua, the road is just before the med center on the same side of the highway.

And "stretching" is allowed there. And that's all I'M going to say on that subject....
