Guus Helms visits the Dominican Republic and Haiti since 2008. With his photographic eye he highlights, often for the unsuspecting passerby insignificant objects, in a very special way. He takes objects and people with his camera out of their context and hence boost the ordinary in to the extraordinary. Guus still uses mostly an analog black and white camera (Leica) with which he elevates scenes he photographs to art.[/h]

[h=5]Pictures taken by Guus Helms[/h] [h=5]Guus Helms lives in Amsterdam and has worked there as a low and high voltage electric engineer. As a teenager he was a gifted amateur cyclist. Then he focused on climbing and windsurfing. But in recent years he sees himself as a globetrotter capturing the unknown in beautiful images. He visited all continents with his camera always ready. Of all these journeys he made a lot of special photos. His art photos have been recognized by the connoisseurs too because he has been invited for several art exhibitions to show his work. He took part in an exhibition called 'El Mundo' in Holland, the exhibition 'fear of the dark' in Milan and Raw Amsterdam in Amsterdam. Furthermore, his photos have been published regularly in various magazines.[/h]

[h=5]For his many travels, Guus developed a love for Latin American music and he discovered the bachata and merengue when visiting Sos?a.[/h]

Guus soon hopes to exhibit his work, so art lovers in Sos?a can enjoy his work. These are photos that he took in Sos?a and surroundings and Haiti. The exhibition will very likely be called 'Eye for Detail'.
