PARIS (listin.com.do).- Investors will immediately begin construction of three major hotels in Punta Cana and Bayahibe (east), and in Las Galeras, Saman? (northeast), of 50 rooms, the Navarrete (Santiago)-Puerto Plata road will be rebuilt and widened to four lanes, and other complementary works will be built in those tourist destinations.
Tourism minister of Francisco Javier Garcia made the announcement in a press conference at the French Travel Market Tourism Fair-Top Resa 2012, after meeting with representatives of international tourism offices, airlines, hotels, cruise and other related companies.
The official said the strategy is part of the plan to attract 10 million tourists in the next decade, mainly from Europe and the American continent.
He announced several agreements with several airlines and tour operators from France, Russia, Canada, the United States and other nations.
Garcia also announced an agreement with French tour operators who?ll assume the Dominican Republic as a new strategy from now, while Air France will use aircraft with more passenger capacity on their flights to the country during the high season.
He said the regional carrier Air Caraibes added three more flights, and tourists from other French cities will be included, just like Paris .
Javier said the two new hotels in Punta Cana and Bayahibe welcome tourists who arrive from France.
Although he declined to specify the cost of the hotel in Las Galeras, Garcia said it will have special features and guaranteed quality.
