CAN YOU GUYS HELP ME? I am a American-Dominican living in DR for past 12 years. I have learned and seen lots of relationships triumph and fail. I also helped a friend for serveral years in a DR dating site translating for foreigners coming to meet girls. I see a niche and want to start a site....

Do you guys think a personalized translation conference call service catering to American/Canadian men that want to meet and start conversationes with MODEL type or very attractive (not what you see in these dating sites) would be something that would work.

I have worked with these girls on legit films, promotions, modeling gigs and music videos and know them well. I could give the guys my tips, opinions and what I think of her, (ej. if she is just out for money, if she is looking for something serious, if she does have kids, if she is easy, if she looks like she is actually digging the guy, etc) Basically a personalized matchmaker service offering celebs, models and very attractive girls.

Any comments...feel free to let me have it! Thanks guys.

Seems like all your others post in the past were for starting businesses.

You sound like Ralph Cramden and his business ventures.

I'm definitely for it. I know lots of guys who go nuts over Dominican women but the language barrier is the biggest deal.

Its good that you check older posts. And I am glad you took the time out to comment. Since I have been here, 1999 I have been involved in different start ups...this country when you start something that hasnt been done is risky. As for the Ralh ramden...loved the honeymooners...Im a bit over weight and grumpy at times, but what we also have in common is the determination to make it big and doing it with a lot of love.... So something negative that you wanted to do in actuality turned out pos for me B-Boy.

My posts:

Poker- Still hae this biz. Since Nov. 1999. I am partner with a local casino and still doing good. But the biz runs on its own and has a cap for now. Casinos are taboo here.

Stand Up Comedy: Floped. Stand Up Comedy here is not popular cause of the culture. Although its again starting try to get off its feet, with a couple of young guns trying to popularize it...it is still in pampers. Let it go almost immediatley.

Cell Phones: When I got here I tried being a teacher and that helped me get my feet wet, but pay sucked. I got into the the cell phone biz cause of my cousin. Lived on that for like 8 years. Its not the same anymore got out.

Conclusion: Too bad that my first comment was trying to be negative. Persistence for me is a good quality not a bad one. And to bad is from a fellow Bronx Kid like myself.

Take care.

Would $3, $6, $12 depending on the category of the model be ok for price per minute conferencing and translation? Thoughts?

Ok, honest review of your idea coming from a fellow entrepreneur.. This idea can totally be implemented here successfully, your only issue will be finding appropriate women and men looking for the service. The online dating market is extremely saturated and I know some of the guys from anastasia and they won't give up market share for the life of them. They have satellite offices in Santiago now and are moving towards a business model like what you are proposing.

The ONLY issue that I would have in investing in something like this for a BUSINESS is the lack of scalability (apparently not a word although we've used it in internet marketing for over 10 years). The business is basically limited to how many women and men YOU can personally match, it would be extremely difficult to find people like YOU since there are a very limited number of Dominican Americans living in the DR who speak both languages fluently and know and understand women and relationships as well as you. I would maybe start something like this part time using word of mouth marketing and perhaps an ad here on dr1, just to see how complicated these things can really be.

An idea that I would lean more towards is maybe like a social network for Dominicanas and rich foreigners. Things like monitored chatrooms (with a third party translator), additional phone services, and heavy word of mouth marketing could definitely work. I know when you say celebs/models/attractive women you most likely are talking about good looking poor girls, since any of those 3 wouldn't waste their time with an internet matchmaking services if they had means. I have absolutely nothing against women with less money as long as their morals are high and they are respectable (there are a LOT of these women). You would need to screen them very carefully and if some bad apples come in it could spoil your reputation permanently. As far as you monetizing this service, I would just look at what some of the Dominican dating sites charge for phone translation/email etc services and base yourself off that.

Good luck Mauricio and ignore the morons trying to be negative, you'll always get that, it's a combination of jealousy, envy, and hate from people who either can't be successful in this country, or don't live here in the first place.. I can't wait to hear your success story one of these days, take care!

Names of the negative posters on this thread? I do not see none yet. What gives?

OK. If you are saying that maybe they dont live in DR in the first place, then who are you referring to as the morons?

The OP obviously lives in DR, so who would be hating on his ventures?
