Hello. I will be visiting Puerto Plata in the(Playa Dorada Complex) from Dec 6- 16, celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We will have our 2 kids with us also ages 20 and 22. Have a few questions that i hope someone can help me with.
Is the Playa Dorada mall still open? And if it is are the restaurants and bars also still open. I recall going to Hemingways last time i was there. I would like to know were the best place for a good night out would be , dinner dancing and maybe a show. Also would it be possible to rent a cab for half a day or so ? Lastly any suggestions from the people on this board about good experinces they have had would be appreciated.
Thanks

The mall is still open, as are the "off-resort" restaurants and bars. One or two may have changed names/themes since you were there last. Besides the shows at your resort, the best Caribbean/Dominican show is at Ocean World. Check their website for various packages....all include transportation to/from your resort.

Search the board for taxis/drivers..there are several good recommendations, and it's a great idea to do a day tour just cruising around, checking out the sites in and around Puerto Plata...or even heading to Santiago for the day.

i have been in playa dorada just few days ago. it is very quiet there. i have noticed that pizza hut was open, not sure about other places.

for super gourment dining experience you need to try casa colonial: about 100 dollars for two but it is something special. also inside playa dorada complex, in a small boutique hotel with the same name. it also has a great bar for drinks.

for tourist trips try a place run by an american dude called james. he is in the excursion office just opposite pizza hut. good prices and always satisfactory service.

Hemmingways is closed. Good food and a fair price would be Cariatides Bamboo. Turn right out of Playa Dorada Complex and just past the Casino on that main road you will see Plaza El Doral on your left. Its just before the curve in the road. The restaurant is in the lobby. Great food, good service and a fair price, formal or not, your call.

Costambar
The kids might be interested in horseback riding to the beach and/or in the nearby mountains. If so, PM me and I'll pass along a contact name and number to arrange it. Judy

Why would you only want to visit Santiago in the day? Don't know if they have a nanny but night time is when Santiago gets good! Tipico en vivo!!!

I have stayed there a few times and would recomend a car. there is plenty of parking and lets you visit sosua caberete mamon the blue hole. it also makes it easy to go to lots of different beaches monkey zoo restaurants.
