Hello! Lauren here, new to this forum. I am becoming a regular visitor to the island, and each time I am more and more enchanted with the people, culture, and landscape.
I work with a group named International Surgical Foundation, and with the Foundation HOMS, in Santiago. Under the direction of Dr.Duane Pitt, the ISF performs spinal surgeries for scoliosis for impoverished people in the Cibao region.
Next month I will return, but this time for total relaxation on the north coast, and Samana. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. I have some good DOMO friends, in the Capitol, Santiago, and Caberete.
For those out there that enjoy a good read, I highly suggest the Dominicano American Junot Diaz, author of "This is How You Lose Her", and "The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao". A brilliant new voice of Latin American literature.
