How can DR "climate" get a 64?

I have no idea how they got that. I provided accurate data for 4 different parts of the country. I assume they take into account the earthquake risk, the hurricane risk and the high humidity in the summer in certain parts of the country.

Depending on where you are in the Eurozone I am not sure the problems are any worse than many other places. Plus a lot of people like the closeness to their families if they come from the UK. I don't think you can lump the whole of Europe together, and like many Americans who come here they would keep their nest egg in their home country.

I wouldn't rely on someone else's arbitrary scores to make a decision. The DR's big points to me are it's climate, food, lifestyle and proximity to the US. Really, if you don't like the climate in one part of the DR, you can prob find what you like somewhere else on the island.

I went to Palau once on a trip and it has some great pluses for it(esp if you are a diver), but the island is infested with sand fleas and the people chew on betel nut, which is a disgusting habit. For other folks, living without AC or a pool would be a deal-breaker.

Looking to check out Vieques in PR as an alternative to the DR, but I think in the end, I'll be looking for someplace up high in the DR where it's cool year round and I can live a relatively simple life off the grid.

to those of you unfamiliar with the publication "International Living", you should realize that beside some interesting information, overall it is driven toward selling their pubs and especially their "seminars" on expat retirement held in whatever location they are currently pushing, along with, iirc, a connection to some R.E. developments and land sales. SO... that said... lots of good info, but take any definitive statements as to what's BEST with a healthy grain of salt. It could change tomorrow or with the wind.

Yeah, and Ecuador 100? Been there many times - cold, cloudy and rainy in the mountains, hot, humid and mostly cloudy/rainy at the Pacific coast.
I always wonder how they come up with those " statistics".

The one thing International Living got right is listing a variety of places. Everybody wants something different.

I've one friend who hates the beach, and longs to live in Paris. Another enjoys bi-coastal living in the U.S. Yet another is very happy living (and presumably dying) in Jackson, MS. They're all very comfortable and love their lifestyle(s).

My point, is there is no one perfect place for everybody. Which is just fine.

This ''study'' is subjective garbage !
