Wow! It was announced yesterday that Casas del Mar Neptunia in Las Terrenas won the prestigious 2013 TripAdvisor.com Travelers Choice Award as the 5th BEST budget hotel in the entire Caribbean!!

Owners (and my close friends :) Jim and Suzanne Sautner have worked hard to create a beautiful, bargain oasis and truly deserve this honor which brings international attention to the entire country--
Felicidades!!!

This was always my favorite hotel when Frank the Frenchman owned it. But then Jim an Suzanne bought it and they are honest Canadians and keep honest books and therefore had to raise the rates to cover the real costs! So I had to move down a bit to the place next door, Don Pedros.... But it is a WONDERFUL little place. Thanks for posting.

I stayed with Suzanne at the Del Mar for the first time last year and will stay again when I return in May. Suzanne could not have been more friendly and helpful! Congradulations on an honor well deserved!

An other simple hotel is Casa Robinson with a spacious Apt. for 1600, rooms for 1200.
Other budget choices are, Fata Morgana, Pino de Austria.
The better hotels are $120-150 or more.
I was not impressed with LT.
Lot's of traffic and associated air and noise pollution, including many quads.
Little room on side walks.
Public beach access to Playa Bonita and Conson not great.
Restaurants Pizza-Pasta, Pizza-Pasta, yes of course there is more.
Prices are high, often added are an additional 16% Tax and 10% Tip.
For those prices I eat better in Europe or N. America, except fine dining which really is fine dining.
I'm not looking for little Italy or France in the DR.
Many others love LT, just shows people are different.
Visit and make up your own mind!

you need to adapt to a much different schedule.. do not go out for evening until 9 pm when the pork roast starts on the street

then see if you can close the discos..

that appears to be the most fun way to enjoy LT

i eat great food but avoid almost all of the restos that were in the fisherman;s village

except.. well... if i telll, the prices will go up

this will be after your afternoon of kite surfing.. so you will need a nap from 5 pm to dinner ... and i recommend between 2 and four.. which is how the village used to run. keep the same hours as the supermercado'''

And I think that congratulations should go to Tropix Hotel in Sosua (#8) and Extreme Hotel in Cabarete (#10).
