From today's Sosua News:

[h=5]After the parade (27 February) through the streets of El Batey and Charamicos, where all students of different schools took part, the main road Pedro Clisante was closed to traffic. The street was transformed into a free market where individuals and local businesses people could sell their ice cream, jewelry, clothing, fruit and vegetables and even hot dogs. The restaurants and bars as Jolly Roger, Tipico Alberto, Cubana and Schnitzel Paradise had their tables and chairs put in the street.[/h] [h=5]Street Party Pedro Clisante[/h]
[h=5]Street Party Pedro Clisante[/h] [h=5]For the children, there were also several activities like a bouncy castle, coloring, mask making, dunk tank, fishing game and much more. Especially the 'dunk tank' was highly appreciated by the children. Some volunteers (visitors of Jolly Roger) took place on a seat on a big disc connected to a lever where children threw projectiles at them. If the disc was hit, then a balloon filled with water was punctured above the head of the volunteer sitting on the seat. And loud cheers followed when the volunteer got wet by the exploding balloon.[/h]
[h=5]The school of dance of Emily Watson did a terrific dance performance at about five thirty. At about 8 o'clock in the evening the carnival association 'Ucaaplata tribe' from Puerto Plata was supposed to do a performance. But just before the show, they suddenly demanded a 14,000 pesos fee. Tropical Show Cabarete took over their place and brought a rousing dance, drumming and a fire show.[/h] [h=5]Street Party Pedro Clisante[/h]
[h=5]Street Party Pedro Clisante[/h] [h=5]For years now visitors and entrepreneurs ask the municipal government to partially close the main street Pedro Clisante for traffic passing through. During the party it became clear again how nice it is when the restaurants can put their tables and chairs in the street. How pleasant it is for the public not to be disturbed by the noise and exhaust fumes of mopeds and cars.[/h]

For years now visitors and entrepreneurs ask the municipal government to partially close the main street Pedro Clisante for traffic passing through. During the party it became clear again how nice it is when the restaurants can put their tables and chairs in the street. How pleasant it is for the public not to be disturbed by the noise and exhaust fumes of mopeds and cars.Yes, and then where would us affluent people who actually have cars drive? What a stupid idea. It is the only damn street in town and close it to traffic! How crazy can people get?

The only damn street in town???? What have you been smoking, Derpescado? I easily drove around town that day, and I enjoyed the street party along with many other "affluent" people who drove their cars into town.

Perdo Clisante is hardly "the only damn street in town", and the portion of it that was blocked is very short (one block) and easily circumvented. I wonder about Derfish's motive here, to disseminate such obviously false and ridiculous misinformation. Sounds like someone with other fish to fry.

The street fair was good fun, and closely that section of Pedro Clisante periodically is a great idea. If only the mayor and others would listen to those who actually know the area.

The great thing about Sosua is that there are several streets in town so closing a portion of Pedro Clisante is not a problem. We drove around town that day and it did not inconvenience us in the least. And it is wonderful to have pedestrians on the street without cars. I hope they close that section again. Unfortunately Cabarete cannot close it's street.

It looks as though a merry time was had by all. (they all felt merry so Mary went home....haha)
Were there any dr1'ers in the pictures?

In cities all around the globe people are temporarily closing portions of main streets in an effort to "give back" to the people what they believe belongs to them. The almighty automobile will have to move over and make some room for others (pedestrians, bikers and what have you) especially in areas of relatively high population.

Automobiles don't pay taxes, people pay taxes.
Power to the people !!
