And does anyone really think that will stop anyone from going ahead and getting married and providing a coveted free pass to the USA via Canada

2 years of pretending to be in a relationship is easy for a future where you want to be. Unless the Canadian has the option to say that it is in fact a stable relationship and if it is not can send his or her ass packing. Put the power back in the hands of the Canadian and not as it is now in the hands of the immigrant

Interesting video that everyone should listen to...

Video - Marriage fraud: Stories from victims

The Canadian government already makes obtaining a TRV or sponsoring a spouse a prolonged and painful process.
If your spouse leaves you after landing at the airport one can feel compassion and empathy.
In real life it shows that you are very poor at assessing an other persons personality, which is a valuable life skill.
If one lives with a person for a few months they always reveal who they are, if one is astute enough to watch and listen. See how they live and what they have done/are doing.
Thanks to our governments for "protecting us from ourselves"!

Yes, but most times there is no such a chance, because usually one lives there and the other here. And that's how they get screwed in many more levels than they expected.
