I wanted to start this thread not just to promote a business but also to start discussions about how to start a business in the DR and how to set up your office, retail or industrial space for your business and to start discussions about working from home, while travelling and working remotely with access to your office.

The office on Av. Sarasota is also the location for our other business Boyter Island Real Estate and we are the commercial leases specialists in Santo Domingo with a very large database of commercial lease listings. Please see our Real Estate website Boyter Island - Commercial Real Estate in the Dominican Republic Since 2006 we have worked with Real Estate in the DR.

I work from home but have considered many times to rent a small office place, basically to be out of the house (3 kids around), however it's the cost what makes me just stay working from home. I don't need to receive people in my office and don't need a receptionist, just enough desk space for a laptop, ip phone, normal phone, scanner, printer.

Lately I use several 'offices' spread over the city: Santo Domingo Coffee in Agora and Sambil, Cafeteria Jumbo Luperon, Panavi in Gustavo Mejia Ricart, all places with free wifi, I work on the iPad and it syncs with the laptop when I'm home (Dropbox is my favorite tool). I will have to wait one year more for Office for iOS to be available, there is not much to complain about Apple, but Numbers sucks.

The good thing about this solution is that I can go and use an office near a client I'm visiting that moment, the bad thing is the noise around you.

In Holland there are remote offices on several locations in the country, often near highways. You pay a monthly fee that lets you use any of these (flexible) offices, you hook up your laptop in a free spot and start working until the traffic jam dissolved and then follow your way to your employer or appointment. I always liked that concept but I guess In DR this wouldn't work, if it would just be for your fellow users making so much noise that you can't concentrate.

Thanks Robert. When we started I had a thread here on dr1.com and it generated our first leads. Those clients are still with us today apart from one who moved his business to another country and another actually passed on the arrangement to a colleague. I have kept friends with them though and those first clients where very helpful giving advice and coming with feedback. It is a very interesting and fun business to be in. You meet a lot of interesting people. Both foreign and local entrepreneurs, foreign managers from different backgrounds and of different nationalities. Our goal is to create an innovative and creative environment as well for our clients to benefit from and for them to network in here at Your Island Office in Santo Domingo.

Interesting Mauricio. I am also a big fan of dropbox. We use it at the office as part of our network. I can for instance from anywhere from my laptop send our flyer's with price information and an application form for the virtual office service. We also use google docs but more for documents we work in constantly together in the team for instance to register our leads that we all go in and look at and follow up on. Also the spreadsheet in google docs we find very useful as we have an accountant who helps working remotely. She then talks on SKYPE with me or our office assistant while we look at the spreadsheets. To enter our QuickbooksAccounting System remotely my accountant and I can use either team viewer or WebEx. Before I travel next time I need to have all this set up on my IPad that I bought recently. Well at least dropbox and google docs.

At Your Island Office in Santo Domingo there is a reception where you can receive clients who come for meetings and we have a bilingual receptionist. It is a top priority for us that the reception is always working well for receiving people and for taking calls coming in. We are 4 people at the office. Our bilingual receptionist is now also our sales person of our different services and is going to start visiting clients once a week. Like lawyers, different chambers of commerce’s and other clients who send us leads and new contacts that could potentially send us leads. Our other office assistant and I then take care of the reception with me answering any English language calls. We have two receptionist phones set up with display showing name of the company that the incoming call is for.

Also my partner helps with the reception. She is our “Gerente de Ventas” and a real estate broker working with me on showings of properties, negotiations and closings. She does the training of the other two in how to receive clients, take calls, take messages and pass them on. We actually have worked out a manual for it that is in our dropbox. I am hoping soon to hire a support bilingual receptionist who at the same time will work with our different websites, social media, and assisting me in blogging but in Spanish.

Mauricio we have as I mentioned in my opening post at Your Island Office a virtual office plan which includes usage of a Mini Office which we have two of - Virtual Offices and Serviced Offices, Dominican Republic Santo Domingo. Here you can sit privately and you just have to plug in your laptop or use Wi-Fi and you can start working. There is an IP-phone and you can make local calls.

It can be complicated setting up an office in the DR. First of all finding the right location can be a long process. Then negotiating lease terms and then finally signing the lease contract. Then you have to maybe modify the space for your needs and often here that is totally an expense paid by the tenant. Then there is maybe installing an air-condition system or air-condition split, buying furniture, getting electricity set up and having internet and phone lines installed.

This is a great idea. I started a healthcare company out of such an office arrangement. Having an office-in-a-box with furniture, phone, conference room, receptionist, etc. is a fantastic way to go until you need...or can afford...your own....

At Your Island Office we have this office available Santo Domingo : Dominican Republic Rentals : Office Space For Rent that is advertised here on dr1. Our other 6 offices are currently rented out but our concept is renting out short term 3-6 months so within a few months they can become available again. We are working more on expanding our virtual office services and we now have more local entrepreneurs and foreign entrepreneurs based in the DR as clients. In some cases it is because the Dominican internal revenue the DGII by law demands that an incorporated company in the DR has to have a mail/commercial address just as it is the case in the US. Our service also gives you a business address at a prestigious location and includes phone services/bilingual receptionist service and your own commercial phone number. We also have excellent facilities for training and courses. Please see this space Executive office Listing in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic which can also be rented as an office for 4 people short term for instance for just a month or as a conference room for 10 people for a week of training. And this office which is ideal for training or as an office for short term projects and IT-companies Serviced Offices listing in Santo Domingo,Dominican Republic. We also have several virtual office packages for instance our Premium Plan which includes usage of an office some hours a month with a view of the Caribbean Ocean and usage of our 8 people conference room Virtual Office listing in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

After several years of offering the services of Virtual Office Plans, Conference Rooms and Serviced Offices we are now an established business in Santo Domingo. We advertise here in the directory on this site http://dr1.com/directories/Your-Island-Office.html which is a good marketing tool in the Dominican Republic. We have currently two executive offices available a 3 person office and a 1 person office. We also have two conference rooms one for 10 people with a view of the city and one for 6 people that can be rented by the hour, for a day or a week. We also offer several virtual office plans which include fiscal address, phone service where you get your own dedicated phone number, bilingual receptionist service and the plan can include use of our virtual club for working and use of the two conference rooms monthly depending on the plan that suits you www.yourislandoffice.com . We have many international clients and some local and recently we have experienced more interest from businesses and entrepreneurs based in the tourist areas needing a presence in the Capital.
