kids are moving back to Samana with their mother. they're fluent in French, English, Spanish. they'll be 13 and 15. what are the options in a private system in any language? I think that I read that there was a decent French school there.

Two other options in Las Terrenas are:

Colegio Alianza (on the main road that crosses Las Terrenas to the south) and Las Terrenas International School.

Alianza is closed. The French School is the only game if you want good teaching. No other comes close, as the rest are just "Colegios privados Dominicanos"... Not really worth much.

There is also the International School by the Anacoanda Library behing the LT Cable TV Offices. The base teaching language is English but I fear your children will be too old for it. My 7 year old goes there.

From Las Galeras to LT daily ?????? A 2 hour commute daily (1 hr each way) ?

Never heard of it , never even heard an adult doing that.

Good luck with your search !

yes, pas de choix! not much educational choice in las galeras. we'll likely get a few other kids and hire a driver.

Bonne chance !

I would consider moving (even Homeschooling). With a 2-hour commute for a child daily, why even live in DR ? come join us in the Rat race :)

Just my 2 pesos

those are the prices per month... in pesos so you are looking at 21,600 pesos or 520 US per month in tuition. There are scholarships available.. I think, through the government of France?????

Before taking on a two hour daily commute, I would consider home schooling. There must be a better option than the proposed commute. Not only is this a long commute, it is also a dangerous one, as those roads are uphill and curvy. I would be sitting back biting my nails every day until the kids came home. Again, there must be some kind of grade school that will work for you in Las Galeras, or then in Samana city. I would not consider Terrenas for commuting on a daily basis.

I would have the kids at the local school, and it's only about 4 hours a day. Then I would "home-school" in the afternoon. That way, kids can still have friends and socialize.

hi Dolores. long time no talk. hope you are swell! the new road to las terrenas from samana isn't so bad. anyway they'll get a taste of it at xmas since they haven't done it in a few years. i'm totally against it. I want them to stay here in montreal. home schooling there would last about a week. we'll see the options at xmas. thanks.
