As in, to put an inch of peanut butter on a sandwich. I had a unabridged English to Spanish dictionary and even that didn't have it in it.

Untar...only it's not a specific verb as to the thickness. Untar generosamente?

To slather means to untar. But slather in english means to spread in large quantities.

Me gusta mi novia untarse con mantequilla de man?

Nonono...you've got two options:

Me gusta que mi novia se unte mantequilla de mani

or

Me gusta untarle mantequilla de mani a mi novia

Either way it's gonna stick to the roof of your mouth if you use that much.

If it is a big amount of buttle embarrar is the right word to use.
Meanwhile a thin coat will be untar!

"Untar abundantemente/generosamante" or "untar una cantidad abundante/generosa de...." will do the job.
And hey, also  "saturar", like in "saturar el pan con aceite."

Hope this helps!

Saturar is a different thing. Is when you soak, so to say,  it in the stuff.

When people say "soak the beans in water", in Spanish that would be "sumerja las habichuelas en agua" not "sature las habichuelas". It's not required to "sumergir" something in order to "saturarlo".
