The only bar I visit in JD is my old buddy Franks in the new JD, he has recently taken on a club up the road which is half arsed, but he has nice girls up there.

Hi, what is that about the dogs being poisoned?...I got family in JD that have had their dogs (4x) poisoned in one night.
She got 2 new dogs...but 2 weeks later, also killed.
I thought it was only with them.

Many prople mentioned Juan Dolio is much safer?

Both are safe enough but for different reasons.
Boca Chica, as long as you don't follow any hooker to a RD250 room to get off, or go on a moto with a drug dealing concho. Stick pedestrian area and you're fine.

Juan dolio, it has much more quiet spots in tween places, much more chance for something to happen, a lot of Eastern Europeans in JD these days and the police are much more likely to tax you if you are alone or on a moto in JD.

Don't go to JD alone, unless you want some real time out.

I thought you had the chance to go to Bavaro? I've be on that straight away, screw this south coast, it's a sh1t tourist destination. Go to Bavaro, visit Steve's bar, pick up a friend to spend the holiday with you, you'll have to pay extra for her but you'll be assured a great time, on tap!

Also when someone who lives somewhere tells you it is better, safer, cheaper than elsewhere. Take it with a pinch of salt, life anywhere here is different for residents than tourists, entirely different.

It's all over and I'm in Talanquera that dogs are no more. Guavaberry has also seen many breakins. The highways are bad news .It's really bad. You have to keep your guns cocked and loaded

I cant believe anyone would think BC is safe. I can't imagine where Stuart thinks is unsafe.

Listen if you are so worried about saftey, being the seasoned savy traveller that you are, you should stay home, lock your doors and windows and don't answer the phone......Quit being so paranoid before your feet hit the ground.....just like NIKE just do it

Nothing wrong with feeling out a place before you get there, that is what the forum and members are here for.

El Chocolate is between old JD and the AI places and is lively on weekends. The disco across from the casino is pretty nice. JD is strung out on a road that runs parallel to the beach on the south side and the highway to San Pedro on the north side. The locals hang out at a colmado near the stoplight at the western end of town next to the picapollo and the Colmado Neito down the street towards the beach from the stoplight. There is a German bar a block E of there.
