Zero tolerance for drug traffickers: Dominican Republic stop prosecutor

Santo Domingo.- The Justice Minister on Thursday rebuffed criticism on his challenge of releasing money laundering convict Sobeida F?lix on parole, noting that the war on drug trafficking requires responsible and firm positions from Dominican Republic’s entire Judiciary and law enforcement.

Francisco Dom?nguez said the authorities haven’t wavered from their firm positions in serious cases including South American drug cartels, which he affirms have managed “benign” convictions.

“A Colombian network is an example of the strongest and most organized drug trafficking structures, which was able to operate in the country by installing technology and a modus operandi unusual for the region, or the very case of (Jose) Figueroa Agosto, in which we’ve seen sentences from rulings weak handed down against its members."

He said many thefts and burglaries are directly linked to drug trafficking. "The scourge of drugs destroys our young people, restricting our peace so no tolerance is possible with those who kill and end up corrupting the depths of our institutions and eating our society."

"I’ve said it many times, the all-pervasive drug trafficking manages to infiltrate all levels by bribing, extorting, threatening and even making use of blackmail. They have no mercy whatsoever and we cannot allow or should be indifferent to their actions and sit idly by."

Great Article, but...

They need a dosage of Locked Up Abroad, shot on site, or just executed after trial, that there would clean this Country up pretty quickly...But, just like the States, no Government has the balls to enforce it such as the Chinese do...

So, its the norm, prisoners running the asylum

And since the entire Judiciary will never get on board, much less government ministers, this guy is waging a war against windmills.
