What is an average monthly salary for a day nurse, or a night nurse, to take care of an elderly gentleman with minor disabilities (can walk on his own, but needs help getting up, going to the bathroom, etc)?

If someone has specific examples, please specify if it is day/night and if it is a private domestic worker type arrangement or if it is a company hired arrangement with full benefits like severance pay, lunch, transportation, etc.

Conchman, are you looking for someone with a nursing degree for this job? He sounds like what he might really need is a nurse's aide/assistant, unless there are injections or other specialized care.

Maybe a live in situation where the live in has control of the social security check and takes full charge even sleeping there and being available to respond to the bedside at 3:00 AM?

Are you applying for the job?

I doubt a nurse is making that kind of money in DR, I believe the average of nurse working in the public sector of DR are not earning 500. US Dollars a Month.

No i am thinking about trying to arranging the same thing for my oldest brother who needs it.

I'm curious, Derfish. Were you ever able to work something out for your brother? I will need something similar. Unskilled (but trainable & reliable) help.

If so, how much did it end up costing you?

A physcian in SD este said to a friend whose mother was bedridden essentially that he could get her a private nurse for 10,000 per shift.. so three shifts a day. I do not think this would have been an RN but more like a LPN.. a practical nurse.

i think you mentioned in another thread that you are located on the NC? unskilled person (just to wash you, dress, feed and help a bit) would be about 10k a month (plus room and board) or maybe 8k if only working days. a nurse would be 15k, possibly more. all prices are in pesos.

private rates are not really comparable to hospitals. there is considerably less work, even if there is some intravenous medicine involved.

I am guessing that a "wing specialist" is a nurse entrusted as the head of a wing of a hospital, a supervising nurse of some sort

That's where I visited, yes, and probably where I'll end up. Not 100% sure yet, though.

I'll probably let my girlfriend put me in bed at night, but I don't want my romantic interest having to do bathe me, wipe my butt, etc. That means, basically, that I'd need 5 hours a day, max, and that includes running some errands. Providing room and board would be no problem.

Good to know! In my case, I don't take any medications so the IV issue is not a concern.

So, hahaha... that's funny. $231/mo. + room & board? Here in the States, that would buy me 2.5 days. Unbelievable!

Thanks for the info, everyone.

you require similar level of care as a child. this is no offence, just stating facts. wiping the butt and washing someone does not require much skill. i don't think you'd be a difficult patient. i think the biggest issue would be to have someone stay the night. live-in help can be hard to find. but maybe you'd be ok with someone come over for 2 hours in the morning and the same in the evening?

labour in DR is still very cheap. it's a blessing for people like you. i wish you luck :)

No offense taken! I use similar words, myself, when describing my care needs. ;)

Indeed.

Yeah, I was worried about that aspect, too. Not only finding someone, but trusting them. Referrals will be key, I'm thinking.

Something like that could work, well, yes. Especially if mi novia moves in with me. ;)

Gracias, amigo!

WheeledOne, if your novia is Dominicana she will be happy to do the cooking, cleaning
and shopping for you if she moves in with you.;) All you would need and pay, is for someone to
attend to your personal needs.:)
