FAMILY CODE to allow a woman register a child with alleged father?s last name

As Diario Libre reports, the draft for the Family Code has just been presented to President Danilo Medina. If approved, it will:

-Allow a husband to take his wife?s last name.
-Give a woman the choice not to take her husband?s last name.
-Allow a woman to register her child with the last name of the alleged father.

A press release indicates that this legislation intends to promote responsible parenting by allowing single mothers to register their babies under the last name of the alleged father, who will be previously notified.

You would think it should require a dna test and not just notifying the father. Does this act equalize the process for a man getting citizenship marrying a Dominican woman?

Hmm I Don?t know. Haven?t heard anything about that yet. Anyway, if then it turns out that the alleged father is not the real father, what it?s going to do is create more problems later.

I can see woman "notifying" rich men who are on their death bed. Then use that birth certificate to have their child have a great inheritance

That doesn't make any sense and can only create a bigger mess than we already have with the now code. Who came up with the idea of the mother registering the babies without their father knowledge, mother can register their new born babies as single mothers and if the father later appears and wants to be a father he can fix that is what I think. Now allowing women to do what it says here is just creates big problems that will only benefit the lawyers and the dna test clinics owners.

Have you any info about the position of a man marrying a Dominican woman under the existing law? Can he acquire citizenship through the marriage?
