Hi! I might be traveling in Dec to the Salcedo/San Francisco area and was wondering if there are any hotels/motels where a family a 4 can stay at for a week or so. I've been around the area before but it seems the only lodging places are cabanas only. Is this correct? If someone can help me out I'll greatly appreciate it. If there is nothing around the area what would be the closest place besides Santiago? Thanks.

Hotel La Casona, in Salcedo. Right in the center of the city. You can walk anywhere. Hotel LA CASONA GRAN IMPERIAL en Salcedo.

Hotel Libano, in Macoris. Right across from the local plaza. Hotel L?bano, San Francisco de Macor?s, Rep?blica Dominicana

That's awesome! Thanks for the information. Now, do you know anything about neither of these hotels such as rates, if they have suites and what their service is like? Any more information will be appreciated as well. I do intend on making a phone call and finding out as much as possible. Thanks again!

Both links do have the fares. Check out "Tarifa" on the El Libano link. It says $45! No idea if they have suites or what they?re like. Maybe you could find some pics of their rooms on Trip Advisor or a similar site.

Oh, yes I did see their rates but you know how that changes specially with the seasons. But I will call and see what they say. Thank you once again!

If you decide to stay in San Francisco, Hotel Las Caobas is definitely nicer than El Libano. It has a swimming pool and a restaurant onsite and also a casino/club on their premises. However as stated above it's in a residential area with nothing to do or see around there and unless you have a car you're gonna need to take a cab to get out, which should run you around 150 pesos one way to the center of town.

El Libano although not as nice, it's right in the center of the city across from the Parque Duarte. So you'll be within walking distance from pretty much anything of interest.

Yes, I just checked for the dates I'm planning to travel down and it says that they are sold out (Hotel Las Caobas). Go figure. Hey, while I'm here I might as well ask if there are any nice car rentals in the area as well. Any available links? Thanks.

Northeast / San Francisco de Macoris - Directories, Dominican Republic.

If you are traveling with a family, Hotel las Caobas is a much better option. I remember El Libano as very small, recall the room didn't have a window, the hotel was a labyrinth.
You may also consider the Centro Ecoturistico Rancho Don Lulu that is in the Quita Espuela mountain reserve.

It is close enough to San Francisco de Macoris, the city, and will be a different experience from a city hotel (that Las Caobas and El Libano are).

See contact telephone in the link above.

When renting a car, would strongly recommend our sponsor National. They have offices in Santiago and Puerto Plata.
