I thought there was a cruise that one can board without a valid passport, just a birth certificate or expired passport was fine. It stayed in the DR. Is this still available and if so how can I get more information on it?

If you are boarding a cruiseship, it is the ship and the ships captain ultimately responsible to insure every passenger onboard is legally able to travel to the destinations the a ship will be travelling with proper credentials or visas. ThIis also includes a valid passport.

Never heard of this. There is a ferry that goes from SD to San Juan.

If you don't get off the ship you don't need a Passport or Visa. I don't know if they have a cruise like this, but it is possible.

They will not let you board without proper documentation. Before 911 it was different. Now you can't even fly through countries without visas (for Dominican) anyway. Hardly any countries allow " in transit" undocumented persons anymore. You can thank the US govt. They started it years ago.

Rebel, I "think" he may mean a "Cruise to Nowhere" like they have out of several Florida ports - They just cruise around without stopping anywhere, for gambling and dining. Does that exist in the DR?

You do not need a passport to enter a foreign country unless you actually enter a foreign country, but the Cruise ship company will not let you depart unless you have a passport, as the names and data of all passengers are recorded into the cruise line database, I think this is required by US law for all cruse ships leaving the US.

Best way to find out is to contact a large travel agency in SD. They would know for sure.

Port Everglades had a Happy Cruise, which consisted of cruising out into international waters to do foreign hookers who were aboard, as well as gambling cruises. Now in a casino one can walk out when one runs out of money, but on the cruise ship one keeps going back to the ATM until one pulls into port . $1200 poorer for one lady I took out for an evening.

That was a hooker????? :rambo:
