Hello!

I was looking for some fellow travelers who are cashing in their Groupons to go to the Cofresi Resort! I was hoping to split a cab and/or find out some more information about this vague resort to which we are traveling! There's very little (useful) info on the interwebs.

Any expats in the area? I'm not one, but I'm a like minded traveler looking to meet some locals.

Thank you!

Actually LifeStyles is not a time share but a club. Semantics to most so I won't bother elaborating. You'll be asked to go on a tour. You have two choices, do the tour and then say yes/no or say no without going on the tour. Option 1 will result in you not having to be say no the next day. Option 2 will result in you having to say no everyday until you leave. Your choice.

It's a good 3+ star resort. You'll have a good time.

There is a 3rd Option. Tip the guy who asks you to go every day [he's assigned to you on Day #1] $20US, and tell him not to bother you again. It works, because that's about what he gets for each person he delivers to the sales building.

If you decide to walk away from the resort there is Ocean World and a couple of small restaurants. The area is not too active because most people are staying at the all inclusive there. Ocean World has a disco, casino, marina and ocean world terrace. Ocean world terrace is a nice place to hang out and drink. They have karaoke once a week.

The resort will have transportation to take you there. Some people get their own golf cart. We had our moped when we were there and would drive it around the area.

The resort has a big party on sunday nights.

I did the tour. A lot of people have strong opinions about the tour. They will take you around the place. If you like to see nice houses they will show you a really nice villa. Their club /timeshare or whatever you want to call it goes from $5,000 to $200,000 or maybe more. They point out the helicopter that comes from the airport with their super VIP guest.

You should see the villa, a member only pool area with hookah pipes, a member only beach, the really nice villa, eat lunch on the beach then take you to the office. in their mind it is now or never. they want you to make a payment right then. the sales guy didn't even want to give me his phone number when i told him i never decide anything that quick. i took 8 months to buy my first car and about a year to buy my first house. they don't think you need to take your time, talk to others, research on the internet, etc. they want you do do it that day.

if you decide to take the tour i would suggest taking a pad and pen. they do not write anything down for you, hand you any information or tell you a website where you can look yourself. they will tell you some numbers but you really have to take a pad and pen.

whatever price they will tell you they will quickly lower that price. they might call over a supervisor to answer a question. they will offer it for a limited number of years instead of lifetime if you want a lower price. they are ready and really want you to purchase something.

one thing about most of the resorts is they only have presidente beer on draft. more and more people are getting into craft beer and a wide variety of beers. you pretty much have one choice. most the liquor is a house brand. if you like a certain liquor like crown, jack daniels, etc i would bring a bottle. seems weird to bring a bottle to an all inclusive but it can be worth it. if you don't mind house liquor and one type of draft beer then you won't have any problems.

the restaurants are better then the buffets. you have to make reservations for the restaurants. the restaurants fill up fast so you need to do that as soon as you get there. it can be a pain to decide what time you want to eat dinner when you are on vacation. but if you don't show up there isn't any penalty. most the time i stay at one all the restaurants are filled up before i decide to make reservations. i ended up eating at the buffet which is a buffet.

i would bring you on insulated cup to drink with. otherwise they will give you a plastic cup. it is much easier to have a larger cup and have to go to the bar less times.

locals really do not take taxis much. they take moto taxis. so the taxis in that area are expensive. if you see a nice minivan taxi that is mainly for tourist and will be pretty expensive. most people probably do a tour with transportation included.

the 27 waterfalls is nice if you are ready to climb up and go down 27 waterfalls. i am sure you can find some videos of it on youtube. you can also go to the malecon which is not too far from you. the malecon has bars and restaurants. there are the most people there on a sunday. some places are across the street from the beach and some are on the beach. there are expats and locals on the malecon. there are a ton of people driving crazy on mopeds. the bars close at midnight on the malecon.

sosua is really nice during the day. sousa has the best looking beach in the area. i think it is 40 minutes from you. if you go another 10 minutes you can see cabarete. cabarete has all the windsurfing and kitesurfing. there are a lot of nice bars and restaurants on the beach in cabarete. the bars and restaurants stay open at night in cabarete. the beach shuts down at night in sosua.

i don't think the disco is too active at ocean world. if you want a disco that isn't too far from you that should be in playa dorado and i think it is called 46. there use to be a disco called pure but it is closed now. they might have a shuttle that takes you too playa dorada. if you like to party later in the night that might be your best option.

is this your first time to the domincan or just your first time to this part of the dominican.
