The Minister of Health, Dr. Freddy Hidalgo N??ez has announced that the construction of a public hospital in Sos?a will start soon. The minister said that soon there will be an international tender in which entrepreneurs can subscribe. According to the newspaper El Nuevo Diario, the minister said this during his recent visit to Sos?a. At least for 20 years now, the residents of Sos?a ask for such public hospital.
Every time again during election time presidential candidates promise that the hospital is coming. It is life-threatening that there is no public hospital in the area. In case of an emergency the victim has to be transported to the private clinic (CMC) or to Puerto Plata. An ambulance needs more than 45 minutes and this is often too long in case of an emergency. In April 2012 the former president Leonel Fern?ndez, during a visit to Sos?a, made the promise that the hospital would come. In front of an audience of thousands of residents, he hit the ground with a pickaxe at the place where the new hospital was supposed to be constructed. But who knows, maybe this times the promise becomes reality.
