Miguel had the results ready before anyone started to vote.
He has always been in Leonel's pocket.
Did you see the casa nacional today? Closed off so that it made it practically impossible for anyone to vote.
This was not about "Mazara's men", this is Leonel at his worst.
They wanted Guido to go in the back door to vote. He quite rightly suggested that he should go through the front door, as should have anyone else with the same intent to vote.

The PRD problems are tiresome at best. However the longer it goes on, the worse it will be for all of us.

Blaming Leonel for the problems in the PRD, classic!

Like blaming Obama for a plane shot down in Ukraine.

PRD doesn't need Leonel to destroy the party, they are perfectly capable to do that themselves.

I don't really follow Dominican politics, but Mr. AE doesn't miss a step. He also believes that Miguel is Leonel's boy.

many dominicans believe that miguel is on leonel's payroll. if you look at the comments under any article about this convencion you will see that as well. basically, the notion is that PRD is (or rather "was") the only alternative to PLD. messing up the party from the inside goes with leonel's promise that PLD will rule DR for several terms more.

personally i believe that miguel is a baby in the sandbox who will not share his toys with the ghosts of political past (hipoolito) or ghosts of political future (guido). and i am sure that in presidential elections he voted anything but PRD.

A little history probably would help for those that are either not aware or have forgotten about this. PRD has always been a party with multiple groups within it that are always fighting for control. They are really the largest party in The DR (Anytime they have united behind one candidate they've won), but almost since its inception they've had all of these 'Alpha dogs' who don't want to share with anyone, so they fight amongst each other and the other parties take advantage of this to keep them out of power. Balaguer used this to his advantage and now The PLD is taking a page from his book to do the same.

It was founded by Juan Bosch (RIP) who left to form a new party (PLD), because being an honest man of conviction he did not agree with what it had turned into. When it finally got into power in 1978, by the end of the first term they were already fighting amongst each other giving rise to a split between Jacobo Majluta, Pena Gomez and Jorge Blanco. Jacobo ended up forming "La Estructura" - Current PRI, but he died sometime later.

After many years of fighting amongst each other they finally united behind El Hippo in the year 2000 which of course they won with a landslide. The constitution called for Hippo to serve only one term, but being who he is he wanted to continue to be president so they (PRD) having complete control of both chambers of congress modified the constitution to allow him to do so. Of course others wanted to be presidents as well (Hatuey de Camps, Fello Subervi, Milagro Ortiz, Pena Guaba, etc) so they rebelled and once again PRD was disintegrating with Decamps leaving to form his own party and the others not supporting Hippo.

Hippo and his camp ended up forming their own party within the party (PPH) with Guido and his thugs providing muscle, so they took control of the party. Of course by then people had had enough of their disastrous policies and wanted Leonel back, because he had done a good job during his first term. Even then if The PRD had been united they probably would have won again, but Decamps and Pena Guaba aligned themselves with PLD and the others called on their followers to not vote for Hippo, so they lost.

Next election Hippo and PPH was so discredited that allowed MVM to start taking control of the party and be the candidate. Once again the infighting allowed Leonel to win, because anyone from PPH would rather lose than vote for MVM. These last elections Hippo comes roaring back (unbelievable but true) and is elected as candidate, but once again the divide between PPH and MVM is so wide that MVM's people rather lose than vote for PPH. Neither Hippo (PPH) nor MVM want to give in and be the vice-president to the other. Because MVM did not campaign on behalf of Hippo last time around, PPH people now say that MVM is in Leonel's pockets (He may be)...

The bottom line is that if they just got together and worked it out amongst themselves to where the whole party supports one candidate they would win almost every election, but apparently they can't put their differences aside and would rather be in the opposition than let their internal rival get the upper hand. I don't necessarily like The PLD, but The PRD keeping themselves out of government is a good thing for The DR.

The PRD are a bunch of classless chopos ans mafiosos. The PLD are a bunch of high class thieves. Time for a third party and a real opposition to the PLD.
