Are there any gamblers out there who can post a definitive list of casinos in Puerto Plata and Sosua that are 1) actually open and operating, and 2) what the current name is of those casinos, and, if possible, 3) a working URL link for them? I know Ocean World is open, but info on the internet about other casinos in PP/Sosua is woefully scarce, not to mention there are some casinos that show up on the Internet in PP/Sosua with two or more different names. Thanks!

I am in puerto plata and can check the ones is puerto plata out for you. i think the casino connected with pure is still closed. i think the casino in playa dorado is open i was by there yesterday but did not go inside.

that ocean world complex could be a lot busier. they do a good job with the ocean world terrace (the liquor store bar) but the casino is pretty slow and he disco is slow for sure. i have mentioned before they need to add craps tables and a sports book for more americans to enjoy it.

Genuine gamblers do not play in the DR casinos. They are set up to fleece the tourists. If you want a nights entertainment with free drinks and grilled cheese sandwiches they are fine. It helps if you like stale cigarette smoke.

I don't play much here. Are there rules for 21 set up different ? Do they play with a 6 deck shoot? I can see the slot machine easy to change the pay out. On roulette normally the difference is if there is a 0 and 00 or just a 0. In vegas you can find roulette tables with just the 0 and that improves your odds a lot. I know roulette isn't normally paid by serious gamblers but the single 0 table is much better.

I never paid much attention to the poker room and or how much texas holdem they have here.

Coral Reef Casino is one of the Sosua casinos. It is right in town. It is open.

Correct. I go to the casino in Sosua only to use the bathrooms should I need a clean place with a toilet seat.

Both casinos in Sosua (Coral Reef and Playa Chiquita) are open, I believe the table games are available from 8pm onwards.

There are some Texas Holdem poker games that go on with about 500 to 3000 pesos starting buy-ins. I believe there is now a big game every month that you can play for an entry to by participating in games during some nights. I play sometime but it is really quiet these days in low season, same few people always turn up.

There are some Caribbean Poker tables, 3 and 5 cards. I play them sometime when I really want to loose money quickly !

The blackjack is 6 deck and 7 decks with 100 pesos min and 2000 max, favourable rules, not bad, but they cut the decks around 50% or 60% if you are lucky, so forget about counting. (I have no idea what other tricks they use, but I like BJ and play this often.)

Roulette tables all have 0 and 00 I believe - not my thing, I rather watch this one. And there are numerous machines where you just press the button and gaze at those rolling figures (never know the attraction, but they are usually busy).

As mentioned by others the casinos here are really not regulated and they do what they like, so like everyone else you are wise to just go for passing the time and not get too excited about real gambling and loose your shirt in the process.

Ask any other questions you have, I go 2/3 times a week, sometime just for looking around and admiring how casinos make their money !?

(Big warning for all, never play that Caribbean Roulette or whatever they call them these days, they are just scams - avoid at all costs.)

I went to the casino in Playa Dorado just to look. It is called the Dreams Casino at Playa Dorado Puerto Plata. It has Texas Hold-em on thursday nights at 830 pm. It is not to big of a casino but has the normal tables. I didn't ask the rules for blackjack but some of the tables said $10 minimum or 200 pesos minimum ($4.65). Maybe those minimums change.

If you go to Playa Dorado you can go to a couple of things without being part of the all inclusive. You can eat and drink at Blue Jack Tar. You can eat under the covered area or you can eat on the beach. The have a small movie theater there. The have the Disco called 46.

There are numerous posts about how the DR casinos do not play by the same rules as in the US and how in some games, you can't quit until you win, which is never, or run out of money, at which point they will escort you to the nearest ATM with some muscle.

I haven't played much here but I have played some. I have walked away with money from the roulette table several times and never was questioned or given a look. I would think you would have to ask for the specific rules and watch the dealer. If you are a blackjack player then you would know how to play blackjack and would ask the for the specific blackjack rules at that casino. I have been to the casino in Ocean World and the Casino next to pure when it was open.
