I generally don't make it down that far on el conde but last night I noticed Hard Rock Caf? is closed, the cathedral has scaffolding all around it doing some restoration work, and the street is dug up installing new pipes.

Hard rock has been moved to BlueMall I believe. It's at some mall anyways. ****ed me off last time I went to find it closed!!

I am not a big fan of Hard Rock but I thought that was a great location. I was there Super Bowl Sunday and one night in the spring of this year and both times enjoyed myself.

Yeh, it's nasty in that little mall thing now, really seedy. Fact is there is a much better rock bar 150mts away not that many people even know of as it is down the side street off El Conde. He playes fantastic 'alternative' music all night, every night, and not a shiny t-shirt, with pink winkle picker shoes clad moreno in sight, it's absolute bliss. Could be back in Europe while in there.

Hard Rock in the CZ was a bad location because of lack of parking and access.

I'm also kind of disappointed that the Hard Rock had moved from the Colonial Zone; I went there looking for it in April when I was last in DR. I'm not sure what the thinking is behind moving it to the Blue Mall or what type of traffic that mall will get. Will it generate the tourist business that I know it used to generate in the Colonial Zone?

I liked it there, lots of tourists walk in that area anyways and isn't that mostly a tourist kinda restaurant? I won't go to it in Bluemall. I think they made a big mistake!
****es me off, it served the best drink I have come across in this Country!
They can't survive as a tourist curiosity in SDQ.

Same here,,,,,,,,,,

On one occasion I was there and I guess easily 50 Dominicans drove up on their out of my budget motorcycles.

Maybe if they had had a smaller building they would have survived. Between downstairs, upstairs and the outdoor seating that was a lot of tables to fill on a regular basis.

They didn't make much money off of me but I will be darned if I am going to Blue Mall just to eat at Hard Rock Caf?.

Just go the "Fridays" and have a few "Mud Slides"!!!
I had 8 in Santiago one night!
The best part is, with all that ice cream they taste as good when you "PUKE" them as when you drank them.
Just don't wait to long so they are still cold!
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
Why did I have 8????
"Free Drink Coupons" from the Gran Almirante hotel next door!

American tourists wouldn't probably go to Hard Rock Cafe in Santo Domingo, why would they.

Dominican middle and up class though would definitely boast about going to Hard Rock cafe in Blue mall. Although I must say I thought Hard Rock cafe was more for a little younger clientele than the kind of customers Blue Mall attracts (rich dominicans and (when the hotel is open) business travelers

I was surprised to find out that the HRock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana is Mexican owned. Does that mean they have exclusive brand rights in the DR, and in this way own the Cafes too?

For tourists like me who don't like to just take a chance at eating at some strange place it works. I really don't like the food at many other places around there. It was mostly Dominicans I think that I saw there though when I went but since the waiters were really good at English I am assuming they got quite a lot of tourists.

I am with you on this one 100%. There is always something you can do in that area that doesn't require a car before and after going to Hard Rock. I usually sat outside people watching while dining.

Oh well, just another day in la rep dom.

No the cafes are owned by a European who has been here many many years.
