How much does it cost for the first Placa if you do I yourself? What is involved and how long will it take to receive the hard placa not the paper? The car shipping company wants me to pay $1,500.00 US to do it plus car delivery to house. I thought $1,500.00 would be exorbitant, but after hearing the complaints of waiting months for the item maybe not....? Any information will help, thanks.

We imported a car earlier this year - a 2009 Toyota Venza. Our first plates were 48,000 pesos. The cost is based upon the value of the car, so everyone's is different.
We got the plates immediately, three days after the car arrived, there was no wait.

First placa is 17% of the value of the vehicle and then you pay an additional 18% for ITBIS, plus other fees.

Dealers pay first placa and ITBIS when the new car enters the DR and then just add it to the final price.
