From today's Sosua News:

The municipal fire department Sos?a, with the barracks in Charamicos, not only pull out in case of fire, but for some time now, they also serve as an emergency service. For the latter, the corps has a well-equipped ambulance to their disposal. The emergency department was added to the fire department at the instigation of mayor Ilana Neumann. Because Sos?a still does not have a public hospital, in case of an emergency (traffic accidents, heart failure) the victims must be transported to the hospital in Puerto Plata. With a well-equipped ambulance that can be lifesaving. According to the commander Luis Oscar G?mez (Lupi), the ambulance has pulled out the recent period a dozens of times after an emergency call at tel. No. 911. In most cases, that was lifesaving. The transportation costs are for free.

Mayor Ilana Neumann supports this every month with a 90,000 pesos fuel and maintenance allowance. The personnel of the ambulance service all have followed an extensive 'first aid' course and are also trained in practice. We should also mention that almost all members of the fire department are volunteers who receive only a small compensation for their efforts.

heh, heh, heh. Its a start. Even scoop and run is better than being tossed in the back of a pickup. Who know maybe some gringos with ems experience will jump in and help. In the US most medical rescue service is well supported by the people they serve. In some circumstances a little bit of training with airways and fluid can stabilize a patient who is circling the drain. What is not so great is the treatment they will receive when they do get to the public hospital. Im guessing that they will also go to the private Hospital in Sosua with paying patients. Hell, the private hospital should give them a cut for dropping off living rich gringos. A simple heart attack can bring in some big bucks. Dead people are worth nothing.

Yea, but how long is it going to take for them to change from throwing people into the back of a truck, and calling an ambulance.

That beast must run to POP a lot to burn up 2k USD a month in gas. And INB4 the rest. I doubt they save the extra pesos not used every month for when a big repair needs to be done. That would make to much sense.
