I was just checking fares from various cities to POP in January for a group looking to come to the DR. I checked flights from Denver, DC, and NY. All were about $100 cheaper than flying from MIA...on the same dates and the same MIA-POP flight!! ...so adding a leg to/from MIA is cheaper than flying directly from MIA...WTF?? :ninja:

I know, I was looking yesterday from MSP. It's not AA though. Check the same flights to SDQ or PUJ. Hundreds of dollars cheaper. I saw some Jet Blue flights from Boston to POP for around $450-500 in Jan. and Feb.

Last year I checked POP to Toronto and it was cheaper than going to Miami.
I decided to go even cheaper through SDQ but I was tempted to book to Toronto and just get off in Miami.
Same with Delta. Going to ATL on Delta is more expensive than going to anywhere else they fly in the states.

Jetblue is consistently cheaper than AA, Santiago is always cheaper than POP, but you have to consider time and taxi , almost always worth the extra bucks to come into POP

Spirit Air Ft. Lauderdale direct to Santo Domingo. Usually around $115-$130 one way.

I suppose if all I needed was the shirt on my back, it might be a deal, but if I need to take anything, that doesn't fit in my pocket, JetBlue is usually a better deal for me.

Just bought Delta BWI/JFK/STI for $404 r/t including $159 taxes. POP via MIA was $671 r/t. And Delta gives one bag each free, imagine that.
Almost always cheaper into STI or SDQ.

In the winter time, the fewer stops you make in the USA means the better your chances of not missing your flight to the DR!
MANY weather delays, even NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I missed connecting flights coming and going the last time I used AA On the way there, I ended up in STG instead of POP and got into Sosua at midnight instead of 4PM~ On the way back, I ended up in Boston Sunday noon instead of Hartford Sat Evening. Did I mention they also lost my luggage? Never again for AA.
