I learned that at elementary school, if you ck all the Dominican history books refer to Spain as the Mother land.

France for Haiti...I guess so!

My wife's grandfather on one side is from Spain and the other the Canary Islands, so Spain would be their motherland. There are many Spanish that came in the past 100 years. That would mean they were no colonizers.

Thank you bachata for posting this spanish crooner .. easy to listen to .. Over the past 20 years I have become a huge fan of Spanish classical singers and the very best , as I am sure bob saunders knows , came from the Canary Islands. He was Alfredo Kraus and was a superb tenor . I can watch his performance in Lucrezia Borgia , along side Joan Sutherland , every week and never get tired of him ..Perfectly understated . And Victoria de los Angeles was a treat to hear . And now two of the three best tenors come from former Spanish colonies.. Juan Diego Florez from Peru and Rolando Villazon from Mexico are right at the top of the tree . For all my Dominican friends in the capital and the east , they dream of the trip to Spain , the motherland.. it is nice that they have no resentment .

Dominicans= mix of outlaw Spanish people with Africans. terrible mix, lol.
If Tainos would call Spain as their Motherland, that would be really strange - especially by marxist ideology - but if
Dominicans call it Motherland - its Natural.
