I don't see much in the way of bats around in the North Coast area. Wiki tells me that there are bats in the DR but I can't recall seeing any.
Has someone got some personal experience on this and not the google results?

We have them flying around our pool here in Sosua every evening. They swoop down to take a drink and scare the hell out of me.

we had a big ass colony of them outside of our apartment when we lived on the malecon. some lived inside as well (very high ceilings). i kinda like them. quiet fellows. here i see them in the garden on most nights. i think they are very cute. they do not seem to be a source of rabies here.

e z to see them at dusk go to the street and throw up in the air a key chain or something small , throw it near the overhead wires...dont worry no at the wires just in the vicinity...low voltage and you should see things (flying things) swoop in and away....remember not at night time....

When I lived in Perla Marina, we had some bats that liked certain areas of our porch. Bat droppings every morning. Ewwww.

On the other hand, they eat mosquitos.

I live in Santiago
Good to have around. There is a disease affecting them in US and I think in Europe too.

I built a device to listen for them; this inspires me to get that out again.

We have bats around our house in Santo Domingo in the evening. They are larger than the ones we have in New England. They seem very fond of our mango tree.

My next door neighbor has a huge mango tree that the bats in our area love. They eat the fruit and spit out the pits onto my steps and walkway. My landlord got tired of the mess and installed some motion activated lights to discourage them from dropping their garbage outside my front door.

In Sosua you want bats then come sit on my patio at night. Swooping all over eating the insects drawn by the lights.

some of them have BIG wing spans..... BIG, like 9-10-11 inches

they can look like birds skimming the pool at night.

Definitely bats in Jarabacoa. We had several dead ones show up over night at the school, and I've seen them in my mango tree on the finca.

We had bats skim our pool out in juan dolio. Had to have had a wingspan of close to 3 feet. My wife says they like smoke especially from the funk. Probably why they liked our pool so much. So yes. Lots of bats in the DR.

We have a ton of bats. They drink from the pool at twilight and there's one intrepid fellow that always does a few victory laps up and down the front porch. Usually when we're sitting there with an adult beverage.
