About a week ago, I was at a local dollar store and came across hundreds of kids garden clogs:

So I picked up 50 pair for Tardiff Orphanage...

But wait, still a hundred or more left on the shelves...

If you know of another orphanage, rural school or barrio that can use these, I will ship 50 pair anywhere in the US. Someone else has to either freight forward the to the DR or take them on a plane.

I have someone lined up now for the barrio Cienega near Cabarete for the next 50 pair and a sponsor to cover cost and shipping to FL.

Here's the deal:

$100 will pay for a box of 50 shoes shipped within the US. $54 for the shoes(8% tax), about $20-$30 for shipping, and anything left will go for socks. Each box weighs about 30 pounds and the box will be maybe 16"x 20" x 36"(?) I'm looking for sponsors, couriers(or shippers) and destination sites.

Interested? Send me a PM..

Note that the sizes are RANDOM, metric from 31-38.

does anyone know what it would cost to ship a box of these to d.r. and what would be the best way to ship them?

A mundanza from NY [I think that's where you are?] like Embarque Bella Vista, Montero or Awilda will probably be no more than $75, maybe less if the box is smaller than their standard boxes.

Air freight would prob be too expensive, but I think many airlines allow you to bring one item of luggage free of charge if it's for aid. They weigh about a half pound each. 100 just might fit into a shipping box which I think is $75, but it would be tight. They don't compress well. I'll get a shipping box(mundaza?) or two this week and then I can figure out exactly how many will fit into a box. I could fit two pair of socks in each pair to fill in the gaps. Kids socks are a buck a pair, sometimes two pair for a buck.

I'm in upstate NY, so I still have to ship by ground first.

I'll be making a couple trips this year, and I travel light, so if all else fails, I'll lug them down myself 50 at a time.

Since you are in upstate NY, I am also in upstate NY and maybe we can work something out. I plan go to DR soon so PM me an I can see what I can do to make this happen as well.

I can get them to you in the US, but I'm not experienced in shipping to the DR. Montero would prob be best for $75 a box if you want to ship from NYC.

Anyone know about timelines?

Door to door shipping via mundanza out of New York normally takes 4-6 weeks.

100 pairs have been funded with places to go, 75 pairs left. Also up for grabs, about 100 pairs of girls socks. I can get maybe 200-300 more pairs of socks, but this will be it for the clogs, which were bought at auction by the store.

If you want to bring down a box of 25 or 50 pair, that would be great. I have lots of ppl who can distribute in Cabarete right now.

I can try ask my friend who works for jetBlue and see if they can ship for free to Samana or Punta Cana and get back to you.

With everyone talking about shipping, maybe 50 is too many to take on a plane? I'd like to have as few links as possible, esp if it's going to take over a month for a mundanza.
