Good rate, not great rate. You will be near Ocean World Park and the Puerto Plata Teleferico (sky lift), a very worthwhile trip. Take time to walk the park up there. Wonder if an all-inclusive makes sense in Puerto Plata. You want to head out to Sosua and also to Cabarete, so you will not be getting what you paid for.

check their site for pictures and details: LHVR Hotel
reviews and photos here: Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor

i went to juan dolio last week and my first thought was that NC looks better and god knows i don't even like it here. so yeah, worth the trip. lifestyle beach is not great, admittedly, but their facilities are decent.

The reviews on TripAdvisor for Lifestyles are not very good.
DV8, It depends on where you go in Juan Dolio to form your opinion. If you go to the public beach you will say YUCK. If you go to playa Guayacanes you will like the beach there.

i've only been to metro country club, which was nice. but a drive to JD, past SD was... hmm... giving me an impression of filth, mess and abandonment. i don't discount future visits in the area, thou. i just found it rather dirty looking.

The Metro is not quite into what they call "new Juan Dolio". Calle Blvd. is where the A1's used to be. Now the new condos hide the beach. The Metro is a nice place to visit.
I agree with you that it is filth, mess and abandonment and dirty looking coming from SD.
Quite frankly other than having a few friends left in the area I would not return to Juan Dolio for anything either. Maybe for Guilla's Cafe' too.

i've never stayed there for a night but i have been a guest few times and visited the place regularly. reading the reviews makes me shake my head. looks like non-VIP guests are not exactly happy.

Your opinion would be more credible than mine. You have been there. I formed mine from the TripAdvisors website.

This AI is by far, the worse! Customer service is a strong definite 0. There are so many AI on the island. Don't go to this one.

We've been to Lifestyles, through a deal with Cheap Caribbean - we really had no complaints at all [unless you count Mr. AE's saying the Presidente beer, which was on tap, tasted 'wrong']. We were VIP banded, maybe that's why?

We drove up from the south coast, spent 4 days there, and would go back.

There are about 8 different types of accommodations at Lifestyle, its a huge resort with over 1,300 rooms and the quality varies from 3.5 (Tropical Hotel) to 5 star (Presidential Suites).

The Residences are large spacious suites that are quite a (walking) distance from the beach. They used to be long term apartments that have been converted to vacation suites. I dont know what they look like now, I was only inside a few of them before the conversion.

If you have VIP at Lifestyles then you'll be very happy you went.

I've been there and enjoyed it.

Without VIP you may have a different opinion.

My brother and his wife came to the DR (where we live) and we all stayed there. The price was right at the time, $12.00 per person per night for this AI. I would not go back even at those prices. The food, if you could find any, was bad. Not allowed in most areas. Drinks were very bad, and every time you turned around they wanted to sell you a time share. Go any place else, not here.

What do you expect for $12 a night?????? 5 star royal treatment??????

Most people that complain are the cheap crowd that think they should be treated like royalty for $12 a night.....you get what you pay for....$12 barely pays for a Macdonalds meal here.....

I have stayed there many times and will go back again, the resort is good, the food is good, but you need to PAY for it......

My thoughts, not yours......

Wow, when did you go?? There were PILES of food available when we were there, I don't drink alcohol so can't comment on that, but Mr. AE had no complaints except the Presidente beer. There were no areas off limits, maybe that changed???? Entertainment was okay too. There was a huge BBQ party one night that they shuttled us to, food and drink there were outstanding. I think it was Sunday night???

We went to Ocean World Casino, nice place [coming from Atlantic City, it's hard to get used to the small casinos in DR].

Oh yea for 12.00 pp the room was worth it. But if there is no food and the drinks are bad, did we get what we paid for. Perhaps, but others in our group paid much more and got the same treatment. They went off fsite to eat and drink and enjoy themselves. Be careful. Bad place.

thanks for all the good input. will probably take a chance and do the trip. dv8, i have an apartment in gc/jd. once you stay there for a while you will learn to enjoy the place. new restaurants in new jd, fairly priced, good beaches in old jd with nice little bars and food, a great italian place, "el sueno". when you go to guayacanes, the hotel "playa esmeralda" is now open to the public and has great food service. on the gc beaches you have also good restaurants. airport, sd and spm are close by. again, you have to stay there to love it.

We stayed at lifestyles for like $35 per night. If you plan to use it as a bed and breakfast, it will be ok. There is a beach there afterall.
wouldnt do it again as the cheap rate comes with everything else on the cheap.timeshare folks will be a royal pain, as you will make an effort to avoid them.
Why not drive over to bayahibe / dominicus area for a couple of nights, at least the beach is perfect over there . The Viva does have some deals on their website like the pay 3 stay 4 deal. At the cabana elkes , next door to the Viva, the price is right, the public beach is a short walk away, they have a pool and lend out bicycles. You can easily get the rooms next to each other.
Or even stay in bayahibe and they offer simple cabana touristicos for $50 per night, or stay at the bayahibe hotel for $70 per night with a free breakfast included on the waterfront. This hotel also has loungers on the beach (5 minutes away) which is next door to Dreams beach area, and there are shacks serving the typical dominican beach foods.
Saves you from that long drive to the north coast. Besides that , bayahibe has a number of places to eat in town and itsall good.
