If Haiti has a surplus of these items, I guess they can do whatever they want. If not, it's another in a long line of cut off your nose to spite your face efforts...

I think it can do nothing but help the employment situation in Haiti. Maybe this is a good start.

It was to be expected as the DR gov't was/is prepared for this attack from Haiti. Nothing new.

El Caribe ? Gobierno haitiano proh?be entrada de 33 productos de RD

starting from friday haiti will prohibit entry of 33 different products from DR to haiti: from chicken and eggs to vegetables and juices.

The goods will simply be commercialized via the informal markets (border crossing without paying the Haitian taxes).

Just like DR chickens and eggs, salami and pork is done today.

This will only fuel and provide more power to the informal merchants in Haiti.

All the DR has to do is exactly what it does today. Turn a blind eye to Haiti's banned DR goods being carried across the border to Haiti and biz as usual.

Let's be real, Haiti's gov has never been in control of its borders, much less of their own people outside of the city of PauP.

They are a gov by name alone with a very limited power outside of their armed suits.

If the DR really wanted to f**k up Haiti as pay back, all it needs is to provide some weapons and bullets to some DR-loving factions there. The rest would be normal biz for Haiti since 1804.

Each time Haiti bans a new product from the DR, all it does is lose control and tax revenues of the said item's marketing inside of Haiti.

What they want to do and what they CAN do are worlds apart.

Yeah right.

Is that why DR was crying during the last few bans.

Haitian brigands will rob and kill the merchants at the border and the haitian state will turn a blind eye.

Haitians who export from other places will hire those brigands.

lol. provide guns and bullets...lol...did uncle sam gave the orders?

A little news item from the 2013 ban

"SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (sentinel.ht) - The export of eggs to Haiti from the Dominican Republic decreased 86.3% in the past 6 months according to economic reports from the Dominican press. Meanwhile Haiti's production of poultry products had risen over 400% according to the Secretary of State for Animal Production.

During the month of June 2013, Haitian authorities had banned the import and sale of Dominican poultry products, including chicken and eggs, following the onset of an H1N1 flu in the country.

This situation had caused tension between the two nations and some violence was reported particularly at border markets.

The authorities of the two countries had initiated discussions to find a solution to the crisis caused by the export ban on eggs and chickens to Haiti but talks failed.

Recently, the Secretary of State for Animal Production, Michel Chancy, announced that Haitian egg production was increased by nearly 400%, since the adoption of the ban.

Haiti had risen about 50,000 hens per month but today this number is 400000. Initiatives are underway to continue to increase this production, promised Chancy.

Now with the onset of an apparent boycott of all Dominican products, services and tourism to that country, economists in the D.R. fear the worst."

It covers only a few months, but shows the possibilities for Haiti.

If you believe those numbers from the Haitian gov, then you believe Elvis is alive and well in Vegas...

Haitian authorities don't even know how many eggs laying chickens they have, let alone eggs.

The DR eggs and poultry industry is churning out more than it did before the ban from Haiti. Guess where those extras are going? It starts with H and ends with i...

Haiti is today as is, because there hasn't been a single gov that worked as such. French payment or not, embargo or not, slaves or not.

This is a trait from what Africa suffers still to this day: Tribal interests.

Haiti needs an externally imposed gov to rule it for the next 50 or 100 years. Then left to rule itself from there.

Otherwise it will be the same next year and the next decade, and the next century and so on.

The DR should put an immediate stop to all border traffic and send home all illegal Haitians at once if there is no export from the DR into Haiti.

Sounds like Haiti wants to have their cake and eat it too....

In another thread, I posted the Dominican version of the "HAPPY" song. And I think the discussion in that thread was in support of Dominicans "correctly" upholding laws which impact the DR, regardless of how "outsiders" feel about it.

And so, to be fair, here is the Haitian version ...

I hope that one day the entire island will be able to "honestly" say that they are HAPPY ..... because there is so much potential.
