I am an American citizen married to a Dominican citizen. I currently live in the States, but will be moving to D.R. shortly. I am interested in obtaining a job at APEC University teaching English. However, after reading the message board I am a bit concerned that I cannot work there without being a Resident. Is this true? Do you have any suggestions on how to go about the entire situation? Any help is greatly aprreciated.

Not having a residency need not be an impediment to finding work. It will depend on your employer. Most employers are lax about this requirement and will employ you, regardless of your illegal status. Dominican migration authorities have been very relaxed about applying migration laws. For advantages to becoming legal in the DR (either through citizenship -- for which you qualify, or residency), see the Legal section of this web site at http://dr1.com/legal/index.shtml
