Anyone stay here? Apparently half the price of Hotel Centro a few doors, which I can safely say I won't be staying at again...

Wow, they roll up the sidewalks at night... going to take Caribe Tours to Cabarete next time.. Need one more night in Stg for the flight back.

Publico from the airport, 200 Pesos. They wanted $20 for a taxi from the hotel to Caribe Tours, but talked them down to 150 pesos.. seat belts and AC, Livin' Large!

Aloha Sol
- Food overpriced and terrible plus "Dominican" breakfast buffet
- Room prices have just increased by RD $500 pesos

Aloha Sol is OK, but only if you stay on the Executive floor. Their maintenance is very iffy, so always check that the TV and AC bboth work as soon as you get in the room. And don't think of staying here at the weekend, because there is a Karaoke bar which turns into a disco very close and you won't be able to sleep until about 4am.

Where do you catch the publico at the airport? And why would it be 200 pesos when the guagua to La Vega is only 70?

There is a guagua station at the airport? I walked like three blocks to a Dominican Cafe, then caught the publico after dropping someone off at the turnaround at the airport gate.

Does anyone have the number for the Colonial hotel? or can someone recommend a inexpensive hotel near the Airport in Santiago as I am taking a late flight and just need to crash and then travel the next day to S.D.

Thanks

Always when I am in Santiago I stay at Hotel Colonial the staff at the hotel treat me like family

And if if I need some direction or anything I need they will guide me and the rooms are cheap

And is just what I need a room for to store my property and a place to sleep

well for the weary traveler....the old french hotel on the corner of the colonial hotel is by far one of the sleaziest bars i have ever been in...as it is next door to the colonial they(staff) knows im inside and at 10-11pm the only game ,,,ice cold beers....bar girls and dancing if you care to make them... (im not going to tell you any stories about the late night antics there)..
years ago i had a room in the place ...very interesting cool...large rooms nice open showers and fans...plenty of them but it was remodeled and subdivided like a nyc railroad flat cut up not nice anymore just a money maker..

He must have bought the whole route from the airport to the monument? That was the PA car right?

My friend told me she recommended my place because there isnt any off street parking and the guy didnt like it so he went to Aloha Sol and "it was fantastic".

Hi Peterinbrat

I am planning a one day trip there next week and last time the cab charge 25 bucks to get to Hotel Las Jardines I am only travelling with a back pack I am getting there midday so you are saying its cheaper just to walk these three blocks and grab a Publico to the hotel ....

Yes. I simply walked out of the airport(it's small) to unwind and get a beer at the cafe on the other side of the street then saw a bunch of publicos dropping people off and head back to town. I flagged one down and offered 200 pesos and he had no problem taking me downtown.. HOWEVER, you better have a printed map or be able to give directions in Spanish to get to where you're going. I would not have chosen the hotel I was dropped off at and there were few options that were any better. It may help if you know of another landmark that everyone will know that is close to your hotel as most publicos are dealing primary with ppl who live in Santiago.

I got you I was there before so I know the area where I am going .. I live in Boca Chica so on Monday I take Caribee Express to Capital and then the BC Express for 70 Pesos to BC all I need now is the bus schedules from the station to capital I will print Map and address ... I thinking of Los Jardines again look at that Colonial but did not like the way the curtain was hanging over the AC

My biggest gripe was of the six hotel rooms I stayed in, only one had a functioning toilet seat, including Hotel Centro in Santiago. There, the issue was the seat hit a counter right above it so I had to hold it up while using the toilet. In another, there was no toilet seat at all, then some were mismatched and most were very cheap plastic. What's the deal with toilet seats?? The most common problem was I'd lift it up and it would fall right back down again. At Hotel Kaoba, one seat actually worked and on the next stay, the new room had the lid fall down on me... It lost its novelty after the third time. Maybe it's a plot to make guys sit when they pee..

As for AC, my first room at Hotel Kaoba had the AC dripping water right onto the bed's pillows...

My only other ongoing gripe with the hotels was when the TVs had 40 button remotes and it took me some 20 minutes to get a channel working. At Canto Del Delfin in Sosua, it was set to some very poor quality porn station that looked like they were streaming some 30 year old VHS tape. I guess they aren't catering to the family demographic. The room was crap, but they had a very nicely appointed bed there.
