Hi everyone, my girlfriend and I are trying to get out of Santiago this weekend. We want to go somewhere in the north coast, but not the usual Sosua & Cabarete that every Santiaguero seems to go. I've been investigating, and I've been giving a few suggestion, but I wanted to know if you guys here at DR1 have any suggestions? We want to go to a not so crowded place, with decent seafood close by and maybe decent scenery.

Brace yourself for the onslaught of "cabana" jokes.

How about a bit more NE? Go to Cabrera or Las Terrenas. An extra two hours, but an entirely different world.

I had expected Punta Rucia to be mentioned.

Me too. Except I've been there, and mostly saw 'beach restaurants'. There was a hotel with a restaurant facing the beach/road, but nothing special. There was one place in Estero Hondo that hadn't opened yet, but no real 'view' from there. Montecristi also crossed my mind.

If I were with a girlfriend I'd skip the north coast all together and head up to Jarabacoa or maybe Constanza.

Try Blue Jack Tar restaurant in Playa Dorado and just spend the night at the hotel instead of driving back. In addition to dinner, you two will love to to wake up and have breakfast over the clean beach out back and the rooms are roomy, modern and stylish.

Is Olly still making those out of sight sandwich de pierna, I like mine a little bit picante!
Perhaps you can light a few candles and make the plastic tables a tad romantic.

Don't mean to toot my own horn (except when I do), but Ocean World Terrace (Cofresi, just west of Puerto Plata) is a nice place to go, in fact we have Eddy Herrera Friday night (weather proof in Bravissimo Theater) and Saturday always rocks, safely, at the terrace with a view over the casino and the marina.

...Great Oceanview at sunset, sit at bar or the lawn overlooking the waves,...then a great dinner in the restaurant, unrushed and romantic!...take main highway, exit towards the ocean at Encuentro beach, follow the road to Arsenio's...

Natura Spa restaurant in Cabarete

Foods good there but expect to pay $70-100 for dinner and drinks for two.

I just checked into for my upcoming anniversary. Whew, pricey. $180 for a 'room' for the night. Spa prices were OK, but you could easily spend $500 on a room for the night, dinner, and a few hours in the spa.

I didn't see any 'romance' packages or deals on their website. Just a 20% cash discount.
