Default I am not sure that it is a real lively place. But...

you can go into Rio San Juan and party. there are some nice bars there and the locals are friendly. Take your caddy with you and an "insider" , and you will have a ball.

A slightly longer ride takes you to Cabarete where it is really hopping!.....Wall to wall people looking to have a good time...
Make freinds with a driver and don't let him drink too much!!

    good Luck!

Near the hotel visit the Pueblito Principe at the entrance to the Bahia Principe resort. When we visited friends in Cabrera, the big city in the area, that's where they took us for night life and it was fun dancing merengue under the stars.

HOW LONG A RIDE IS CABARETE AND ARE THE BARS/DISCOS FULL OF LOCALS OR TOURISTS. ARE THE COCKTAILS REASONABLY PRICED AND WHAT WOULD A CAB RIDE COST APPROX?
