DR1 News:

Government starts construction of Santiago 911 building

Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo was present for the ground- breaking ceremony to build the headquarters of the 911 Emergency Plan in Santiago. The headquarters will serve Santiago and Navarette in Santiago province, as well as Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete and Luperon in Puerto Plata province.

Montalvo said the service would operate with the same criteria and efficiency that is ongoing in the Greater Santo Domingo, where the 911 service was first implemented.

Furthermore, Montalvo predicted that a total of 600 healthcare jobs will be created in the expanded 911 Emergency Plan service. He announced that around 1,000 police officers, 200 AMET officers, as well as 100 employees of the Ministry of Public Works would be assigned to the Santiago division. The government contemplates assigning 213 vehicles (including a number of ambulances) to the new Santiago division of the 911 Emergency Plan Service.

Montalvo explained the program also calls for improvements in the emergency rooms at the regional hospitals Dr. Cabral y Baez in Santiago and Dr. Ricardo Limardo in Puerto Plata.
