The travelers' choice ranking of the best resorts in the Caribbean on tripadvisor was announced.

The top 3 resorts are in the DR ! :bunny:

1
Luxury Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado Don Pablo Collection
Samana Province, Dominican Republic

2
The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

3
Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro
Bavaro, Dominican Republic

The are 5 additional Dominican resorts in the top 25.

Impressive ! Good news for DR tourism. Not so good news for independent traveler, as it seems that airfare are going up for those not looking to get a package (I could be wrong but that is my impression, December tickets are just insane this year).

Disclaimer: I am not a AI traveler, but I do understand the attraction.

i never pay attention to those hotel rankings. none of the hotels mentioned in TripAdvisor?s list makes Fodor?s list of the 10 best SI hotels in the caribbean.

Well, Fodor's may be more respected*, but it averages 5 Millions monthly unique visitors, where as Tripadvisor averages 350 Millions. They are not in the same league.

*I feel like Fodor's audience is for the 50 year-old well to do traveler.

Agreed on December's airfares..........

my JFK-AZS flight for my daughter will be $1,200-1,300+
The UK daughter will fly here cheaper

NYC will be double normal.............OUCH!!!

Did you see the new Paris-AZS flight?

Look for it in Travel or Airline info
dv8 posted it as I recall

Yup, I know about it, but When I check for my friends , it was over a 1K Euros, which makes convincing them to pick DR over a southern Thailand island makes it much much tougher.

Also, strangely, I found cheaper airfare flying to POP from NYC, which never happened before.

Have you check the prices for Santo Domingo? If you're willing to do the drive, might save some real cash...

I always fly to SDQ due to that saving on 3 tickets. This year nada, super expensive. I am not very flexible due to the kids in school, so I always fly at the highest, I am just comparing to last year

I purchased a return from JFK to STI, traveling on the 20th Dec and returning on the 9th Jan for $698. This was bought mid August....just shows you what an early bird can achieve. The price includes the extra legroom seats on both flights

If you are pretty firm on your flying dates, buying as soon as they (JB) extend their schedule.....is the best time to buy IMHO.

BOS/STI direct 12/16-1/4....$540.60...including the extra legroom seats. Ticket was purchased in March of this year.

As to the three resorts mentioned in the OP, I have stayed at two. IMHO The Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real is better than Cayo Levantado....but both are head and shoulders above most of the other AI's.

this is exactly what DR is about: all inclusive beach holidays. glad so many resorts made it on the list.

in my humble opinion and not trying to rub a moderator the wrong way , that last statement has no validity . There are hundreds of thousands of visitors to the DR who do not go to an AI . They may go Cabarete or to Sosua or to Casa de Campo or Cap Cana or to the dozens of hotels that do not specialise in being all inclusive

and there are millions who go to AI. it's an AI land, baby.

Yup it was a few AI trips and then venturing off the resort that made me become a two month a year condo renter. I am a snowbird and I find the DR has everything I need including amazing weather. I just relax and unwind during the two coldest Canadian months!!
