From today's DR1 news:

Talking Caribbean genealogy

The 5th Caribbean Symposium on Genealogy and History is exploring linkages between people in the Caribbean from 19-20 November 2015. The presentations are free at the Dominican Academy of History at Calle Las Mercedes in the Colonial City in Santo Domingo.

The symposium was created in 2011 so that historians and genealogists could share their research.

The theme this year is: "Local Narratives in the Caribbean Basin: Building an Identity."

The event is organized by the Academia Dominicana de Genealogia y Heraldica.

Some 30 genealogists and historians from the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic will be taking part in the event, which opens at 2pm.

The event has the backing of the Dominican Academy of History, the National Archives, the Ministry of Culture, and Family Search.

Me too. That's right up my alley. I'm a genealogical researcher specializing in Indian (Canadian Aboriginal) ancestry. Would love to be part of something like that.
