Ocean Palms Beach Resort

Can anybody give me some info regarding the hotels in the Cofresi Beach area of Puerto Plata. In particular I am interested in Ocean Palms Beach Resort and Sun Village Palm Beach Resort. Thanks.

Reviews on this hotel have been very good to excellent. Was at the Ocean Palms in August and then toured the adjacent Sun Village. I believe that within a few weeks the new areas under construction in the Sun Village will have opened, making this one of the finest resorts in the north coast. Lovely gardens, the beach is good, and they have great swimming pools of all shapes and kinds, including one with waterfalls. Good choice for a vacation. The only downside of this hotel is that you need to rent a car or take a taxi to visit other places outside of Cofresi. But in Puerto Plata, I highly recommend renting a car and exploring. Visit La Isabela (near Luperon) where Columbus made a first landing in the New World. Visit Playa Dorada. Take the Puerto Plata city tour. Visit Sosua and Cabarete. And go East to visit Playa Grande. For more information, check out the Puerto Plata, Sosua, Cabarete and Playa Grande sections on the side bar of the main travel page at http://dr1.com/travel/index.shtml

Ocean Palms Beach Resort

Thanks for the info. I will probably book the Ocean Palms Beach Resort which is cheaper than Sun Village. They say you can have access to both facilities anyway. I have a couple more questions:
- Is the construction work at Sun Village still on? If yes, is it something that can bother you as a guest?
- I understood that the hotel is located on a hill. How far away is the beach?
- Any other suggestions regarding things to do, places to see in the evening?
Thanks again.

The construction was very advanced when I was there in August. At the time the construction did not bother at all our stay at the Ocean Palms. Take note this is a sprawling place. By now they should be at the point of opening the new areas. I would think all areas adjacent to the hotel are completely through with the construction and what may be missing is just interior decorating and furbishing details. The beach is perfectly walkable from any area of the hotel. That is part of the charm of the place, the lovely walks through the lush gardens. For other places to visit, again I suggest you visit our north coast pages.

Regarding night life, the shows were good at the hotel. Chris & Madys, a restaurant in the Cofresi area, is very good.

Guests also consistently give Crazy Moon at the Paradise Hotel good ratings as a disco.
