A quick Question.

A friend is leaving the country voluntarily as she has no residency. I have lent some money for the air fair but she does not have the money for the taxes/ over stay fees, and I don't have any more to give. Does anyone know if you have to pay the taxes if you choose to leave voluntarily?
Thank you.

It has nothing to do with leaving voluntarily or involuntarily. When you overstay, you pay. Period.

I don't know about this country, but in Panama if you sign a paper saying that you will never try to return you can waive the fee. Panama has many Colombians who have been accumulating a $50.00 Per MONTH fee for several years. The person I was aware of was the mother to a girlfriend of mine there. She had been in Panama for 7 years plus a few months and her fee was getting close to $5000. She wanted to return home where she could get free medical care as a citizen of Colombia, to which she was not entitled to in Panama. One could ask about that.

Tell her to try the new passport routine or failing that the wheelchair routine. We are told on the forum they work and avoid fees.

But that new passport costs $130.00 and takes quite a few days. I would still suggest she ask if ashe has put into her passport that she never intends to return if they could waive the fee.

If the new passport is 1 or 2 yrs old....
she still has a problem.

They'll go to the date of the new passport.
That will be less - but not zero

it seems the 'departee' is looking for zero....

is zero a number ????/

30 days is a number, but you still have to be brave enuff to state that you arrove at a particular date of less than 30 days, and lost the passport and reported it to the police. They can find the police report in their computer and say OK. And let you thru.

i think there was a time when people could leave free of charge, i believe? we talked about it on the forum.

alas, that no longer is the case. OP's friend can try putting some cash in her passport, like many folks suggested here before. does she no longer have anyone to help her out? family? friends back home? i cannot imagine her leave DR with nothing but a one way ticket, she must have somewhere to go.

The cash in the passport idea might be a better idea if she were to cross the border into Haiti flying out of Port au Prince.

everyone wants to pay zero... ,..she does not even have the price of a one way ticket out of the country...so leaving voluntarily is a bit far fetched ...she aint got a pot to **** in
and people wonder ...why don't they fix the roads ...fix this ,...fix that
