As reported in today's DR1 News:

DR1 is 20 years old
Today, Tuesday 26 January 2016, dr1.com reaches its 20th year online. The news service was founded by journalist and entrepreneur Dolores *******, who at the time was the publisher of the Dominican Republic's English language weekly newspaper, The Santo Domingo News, which ceased publication in 1997. The first news updates and other information were uploaded to the Internet on 26 January 1996, coinciding with Duarte Day. DR1's first webmaster was Joe Spadaro, who was the webmaster for the New York Public Library at the time. Robert ******** joined as webmaster in 1997 and launched the popular DR1 message board as a public forum for the dozens of daily questions the site was receiving.

I was going to Santiago for the first time and wanted to research a hotel to stay in.

Presto, DR1 was the first site to show up on my search. Open the forum and started arguing with Miguel and AZB on using my NY hat in DR places. Boy did they give me an eye opener.

Best of luck for another 20 years.

I had recently been given my first job assignment there, and knew nothing about the interior of the country. Did some Power Googling (which is not recommended unless you stretch and do some light jogging first), and more than a dozen years later....

All the best to the entire DR1 family.

Unfortunately I met DR1 a bit too late. Happy Birthday, although I'm still bitter you didn't introduce yourself sooner, could have saved some grief.
