    personally i have zero interest in sports but it's a good article and great pictures. enjoy.

    I love baseball and I love many of the Dominicans who play for bigs. This was really great; I had seen it in the NYTimes. Thanks for reposting here.

    To buttress the "republic of baseball" description, I spoke, about development work in Puerto Plata, to several groups of interested people in Pittsburgh, PA last summer. It totally amazed me how many of those I chatted with individually mentioned the link between the DR and baseball - specifically certain players with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

    That was pretty awesome, especially the pics. It's amazing how many great MLB players come out of the DR.
