I don't know the law about lending. But I know of someone who is being charged 65% interest for a 10 month loan by a bank. It seems impossible but I know another person who is being charged 20% interest per month by a local prestamista. I don't know what interest stores charge. When I have bought a large item, I have been offered credit.

That's exactly why those two were "planted" in the concrete garden of the building. La Caja China!

If you look at the evidence. It seem absurd that a china would be accused. They are not that stupid !

I was told yesterday these two men were casino lenders - lending money to gamblers. I know from Atlantic City casinos that Chinese are often heavy gamblers, so unlike xstew this makes sense to me.

i do not know how much stores charge but with prestamistas it's pretty much whatever goes. depends on the collateral, the risks, the amount, the time to pay it off...
there are some regulations in place but in practice it's a jungle out there.

Have seen the same in Vegas and PR. As a matter of fact, I have seen this in every placed I have vacationed. They love the baccarat tables. I have seen them gamble away 10's of thousands in less than 2 hours and asked for a pack of cigarettes when the money in gone..............
