I could use a decent hotel close to the airport but pls explain why the price will no doubt be the same as in say florida when labor costs about 10-20% of Florida labor

Coming from the Hospitality Industry (Miami as a matter of fact)..the reasoning is this:
Where else are you going to go? lol....that is it in a nutshell.

Example: We where in an area of Miami not too frequented by your avg.
Miami tourist (beach goers) the hotel has higher rates than comparable
hotels in Miami beach, yet very far from the beach (middle of nowhere)
but if you wanted safety, clean sheets etc.. and you had business in that
area, then you had to pay. yearly occupancy avg. 70-75% at high rate.
Guess what? beach hotels have more or less same occupancy..lol and their
rooms are trashed more often, more security expenses, headaches etc.

Basically these hotels Quality Inn (Aut. Las Americas) and now Hampton
are going to make/making a killing, cause if you need to stay in that area
what are your other options? Panchito's Hotel

Look for the majority of the rooms being reserved months in advance by airlines for their air crew stay-overs. Airport hotels are famous for this.
