I remember (?) a couple years back there was a blurb about a new waterpark
in or around the south coast. I have searched the forum but come up with a
few that are too far away for my group. I need to take the kids out for an
after-school-year getaway.

What's the age of the kids? Delfines is not worth it if they are below 12. Besides being very expensive, the 'best' slides are a bit too rough for young children.

Thanks to all respondents for the information and warning. I'm not too worried
about the children, I am, however, concerned about myself...chuckle!!

The owners mention some details of their park (supposedly the largest water park in the Caribbean), in addition to their future development plans.

It is in Spanish.

Some random guy documented his visit to this park. Again, in Spanish.

It seems that this place is visited mostly by Dominicans. When they first opened, I thought it was going to be mainly foreign tourists.

When Los Delfines first opened, the cost was $50US per day, per adult. I have heard they've since reduced their rates and in the beginning it looked busy. More recently, however, I've yet to drive by and see more than a handful of people there. Most times it appears empty.

How about the water park across the street from the national aquarium. When we visit we usually spend a while art the aquarium than go over to the water park to round out the day. It is much closer to Santo Domingo than Boca Chica but at least it's on the same side of the river.

I went to Los Defines about two weeks ago. We paid just $500 each, and I was the only gringo there, everyone else was Dominican. Very few of the slides are open, there were three tubes and four slides in total available. But for the price it was a nice afternoon. We took two four-year-old kids and they loved the children's pool which has smaller slides for them. The food was also very reasonably priced. I know they also do a package which includes transport from Santo Domingo. It is worth liking their Facebook page as they do have offers. All in all it's basic, but very reasonable for the price.

Made it to the Dolphins Water Park, Juan Dolio on Saturday 11, June 2016.

Taxi from Andres/Boca Chica R/T for eight people was 2500rdp. Special
pricing (?) through the month of June - under 12 is 550rdp, adults and
over 12 was 650rdp. The park was open Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11-8.
Purchase your tickets before you enter the main entry - the ticket window
is obscure but is on the left of the entry. You then go through the once-over
for no food and drink or weapons, attach an arm bracelet and walk through
the turnstile. Dressing room/toilets/showers are on the left/right. Lockers
for clothing and other items are in the dressing rooms but the day we went
I was told that no one knew where the keys were to any of them. When
available they rent for 190rdp. Let the kids loose; security at all the venues
that were open so I don't believe anyone could drown or be injured. Beer
was available in cans at 140rdp; they ran out of light after I had three.
Probably a good thing, saved me from dehydration as I started a water diet
at 80rdp. Cokes were 100rdp. Time for lunch; three pieces of chicken with
fries or plantains 300rdp per plate. I didn't participate in the water works
so I chased shade for the day. The grounds were in need of a severe manicure,
appeared the grass had not been cut in quite some time and mosquitos were
abundant. One of the water slides was out of commission and appeard to be
that way for quite some time as the water pool was green/stagnant water
which contributed to the mosquito problem! The wave pool was not open!
Nor was the dolphin show or the sea lion show. There was one sea lion in
a very small pool of very warm water - I don't believe in keeping wild animals
in captivity and made myself abundantly clear that they were abusing the lion.
One bar and one cafe open. The waterpark was evidently built on the premise
that "build it and they will come"...plastic lounge chairs available for perhaps
1500 or more folks - 200 folks at best when we were there. Kids gave it a 10,
I give it a 3 at most...Banzai'

Yes I was there earlier this year with a free pass . They have done a good job especially with replacing the trees that are between the park and the autopista and which nearly all died , There were about 20 cars there but it wsa school holidays and that may have bumped the price up. What I found surprising is the location which really is nowhere near Boca Chica nor Juan Dolio and much too far for the tourists to walk ..I am surprised they did not situate it nearer to Boca Chica...also surprised that they do not have a shuttle bus
