PUNTA CANA - Two young Dutch yesterday deceased during their honeymoon in mysterious circumstances in the Dominican Republic.

The couple had a honeymoon booked into a luxury resort in Punta Cana. "They have a regular day trip to a nature created along with many other tourists. When we were back at the hotel they were both wrong. They were rushed to the nearest hospital, where they are deceased. The cause of death is still being sought, "said last night TUI spokeswoman.

There may be food poisoning, but that could not be confirmed last night by the tour operator. "The strange thing is that other people on the tour have no complaints, as far as we know now."

The couple's family has been notified. The bodies of the two are still in a hospital on the island. Police and judicial authorities are conducting an investigation. The Foreign Ministry says TUI tour operators have obtained confirmation of the holiday drama. Their death was late last night not yet been officially announced by the local authorities, but that would soon follow, said a spokeswoman for the ministry.

It hasn't been reported in Dominican newspapers yet, too much to report on the OAS meeting and the Orlando shooting. But I don't doubt this did happen.

Thank you ...except in those two dutch papers I can see no reference to what one would think is quite sensational news ..Anyway ,it is very very sad and quite unfair to the families to speculate as to the cause of death

Please do not speculate on cause of death of this young couple.

Let's leave the posts to news links and condolences.

A Dutch couple died while on honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, tour operator TUI informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday. Their cause of death is still unknown and the Ministry has not received official notice from the local authorities, ANP reports.

According to a TUI spokesperson, the couple went on an excursion on Saturday and ate dinner at the hotel where they were staying. The woman fell ill that night and went to the hospital on Sunday, where she died. The man was also admitted to the hospital and died later that day.

All other hotel guests and people who went on the same excursion are still alive and well.

The Dutch embassy in the Dominican capital of Santo Domingo are on the case. No further information on the couple’s identity was revealed.

Another Dutch article, computer translation, I suppose that's the reason for the "killed" rather than "died":

Dutch couple killed on honeymoon

Two young Dutch were yesterday killed during their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic. A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry confirms death. It is a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman from Voorburg.

The couple had made Saturday a regular day trip to a nature reserve, along with many other tourists, said a spokesman for tour operator TUI. Back at the hotel have eaten two there. They stayed in the Punta Cana area.

"The woman was at night not good. She then first visited the hotel doctor. He thought at first that she had eaten something wrong, but soon they are sent to the nearest hospital."

Both are deceased at the hospital. It is unknown when the complaint arose from the man. It is not known what the symptoms of the two were. Insofar as the tour could figure out, had other people who had been on the tour no complaints.

Cause of death unknown

"In the cause of death is still being sought," said TUI spokesman. "The bodies were transferred this morning to the capital Santo Domingo, for further investigation." It may take some time before there is more clarity.

The couple's relatives are en route to the Dominican Republic.

Won't know anything until an autopsy-there could be numerous reasons. Hard to see that it was food poisoning as none of the other group got sick from the food. Nature excursion? Hard to say. Other variables?

Name of the woman is Michou instead of Maria..

http://voorburgsdagblad.nl/mysterie...en-michou-de-graaf-in-dominicaanse-republiek/

The story as reported in El Caribe differs a little from the report in Dutch media. According to El Caribe, the couple waited till the next day to go to the doctor, but according to the Dutch news reports the woman felt sick in the evening and they went to the doctor the same day.
