ConstruWeekend in Cap Cana
Cap Cana in Punta Cana will be hosting the Second ConstruWeekend event on 2-3 September 2016. The event gathers construction businesses in a social and sports program. The idea is to bring together supply companies and developers and strengthen the client-company relationships in a more spontaneous way, said Mario Betances, director of the event. On the program is a golf tournament at the Punta Espada Golf Course, a fishing tournament based at the Marina Cap Cana, cooking show at Little John Restaurant, welcome cocktail at La Mona Restaurant and closing party at the Los Establos Equestrian City. Participants in the event are contributing to the expansion of the Pequenas Cometas Day Care Center, a project of the Fundacion Forjando un Futuro that will accommodate 50 children.

La Puntilla Park and Amphitheater opens in Puerto Plata
President Danilo Medina was in Puerto Plata for the Thursday, 14 July 2016 formal opening of the Parque Turistico y Paisajistico de la Puntilla built by the Executing Committee for Infrastructures in Tourism Zones (Ceiztur) of the Ministry of Tourism.
The park and amphitheater are located adjacent to the 16th Century San Felipe Fortress and the promenade that faces the Atlantic Ocean and continues as the Puerto Plata Malecon.
The seating for the amphitheater was surfaced with IPE Brazilian hardwood making it more comfortable and visually attractive. The amphitheater was built for 3,400 persons, but reportedly could fit up to 5,000 persons.
The government has yet to announce the upcoming shows. In the meantime, the area is well worth a visit even if only for a photo shoot to the stunning views.
Also attending the inauguration were Culture Minister Jose Antonio Rodriguez and Tourism Minister Francisco Javier Garcia.

Celebrating Fernando Echavarria at Hard Rock
Familia Andre band members and friends are meeting in a tribute to the late group founder and musician Fernando Echavarria. The performance will be on Friday, 22 July 2016 at the Hard Rock Caf? in Santo Domingo. Showtime 9pm.
Echavarria died last year of a heart attack shortly before a performance. 
Several of his memorable best hits include: De Oro, Marcela, Pato Robao, Donde E que E.

233,993 tourists visit Puerto Plata by sea
More than 200,000 tourists arrived by the new Carnival Cruise Amber Cove port in Puerto Plata from October 2015 to May 2016, according to Tourism Ministry deputy minister Julio Almonte, who is in charge of tourism for the north coast. As reported, the total was 233,993 tourists on board 79 cruise ships that stopped at the new port in Maimon Bay. These spent an estimated US$12,212,460.
The most visited places were the skylift, the central park and Victorian houses, the Malecon, beaches of Sosua and Cabarete, Cayo Arena (Punta Arena) out island in Punta Rucia and the 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua in Imbert, Puerto Plata. Also popular was the tour to the Altamira cacao trail to visit the artisanal production of chocolate, wine and sweets. Cruise ship passengers also took the excursion to Santiago to visit the Centro Leon, churches and the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration.
