I know they are very common in the DR.

How significant an impact are they on businesses in general and your business in particular?

Overwhelming and an unceasing p.i.t.a. Gen set, and expensive fuel. Difficult for the country to see much progress with the electrical situation. If you like the status quo this is the place

They are probably the single worst thing about the DR. The primitive mindset that allows this to happen for more than a generation is hard to fathom.

Inverter/charger, batteries, generator, installation, fuel and maintenance of those all sadly
add to the cost of doing business. A significant impact.

Thanks windeguy. Now I have a better feel for what's involved.

MarkDR, or you could open your business where there is a class A circuit that has power (almost) all the time.

Just go solar!

Right now you can get USA panels (solarworld) 320W for 16.000 pesos. No maintenance, no edenorte and a perfect quality powersource; no more to high or to low voltage.
Your batteries will last you much longer this way as well, because no more boiling batteries....

The time has come when solar is a cost effective option if you have the space in the proper direction for enough panels. And you can protect them from damage through vandalism and theft.

Alternative power sources are just another cost of doing business.

It is what it is.

Just build it into your unit price.
